Ala immortal first and last lines in plays or novels, iconic images in paint and stone,
mo'om pitchers have their own equally admirable legacy.

We thot it might be fun if those thus inclined chimed in (before midnight wink ) of what
their favorite sequences are (then we might start a complementary one of equally
shocking endings that were SPOILED - frown as an usher friend of ours did blowing the
finale of "Robin and Marian" just as we were entering the theatre, frown frown may he rot
in the fires of the deepest black hole imaginable!!! frown frown frown ).

Anywho, here's our inaugural offering to get this underway.

Y'all have fun, y'hear? wink

Indeed, Howard. This beautiful, poetic, and enigmatic ending elicited an audible gasp from the audience the night I saw it.

I think 'City Lights' is probably Chaplin's best movie, and the ending is a well known scene...

cue battle of bloody porch.

Planet of the Apes sucks! I knew the ending all along. Totally overrated! Oh, who am I kidding, you took my first choice too.

Okay number two would be The Road Warrior.
I didn't understand it but I remember being impressed with the ending of "The Last Wave".

"What's in the box?"

If you like dark endings then this should be right up your alley.

Out of many that sprang to mind -- the crate chamber in "Raiders," Osgood's last line in "Some Like it Hot," Ripley in her lifeboat sleep-pod in "Alien," the Star Child above Earth, Antoine Doinel in freeze frame on the beach, the cemetery scene at the end of "The Third Man," and some mentioned above -- I'd pick this one, from "E.T.".

Always loved the simplicity and heroism of this image, the lighting in the background, the emotion on the boy's face as wind is buffeting his hair. And then it simply cuts to black with the orchestral crescendo. That was a great editorial choice because, as scripted (not sure if they shot it) there was to be a coda after this, where the boys were back home playing D&D with Elliott part of the group, followed by a crane shot up to the roof where the Speak and Spell antenna is aimed up at the stars. It didn't need that. And this was the perfect place to end.

Electra Glide in Blue. Holy hell that ending blew me away. It comes out of nowhere and the final shot is outstanding. Nice thread, Gordon.

this one's from a criminally least seen minor classic--

Obviously, this final shot needs to be seen in motion as the color drains out of the scene.
