This looks as bad as Prometheus.

I wonder what kind of shit Ridley Scott huffs when he's on his lunch hour. I imagine it's gold spray paint in paper bags.

This trailer doesn't make me want to watch the film. That's not a good trailer. Prometheus had a really great trailer at least.

I thought that was a fairly decent trailer and promises a better movie than Prometheus.

I was not sold on this, the second trailer either. I thought the first trailer was MUCH better. But then came that weird prologue a week ago, and now this. I'm not really sure what to make of it, to be honest.

As I've said repeatedly (and will say many more times), I thought PROMETHEUS was brilliant and the original film is obviously the classic that it is (one of my alltime favourite films). This seems to want to be both, and a little bit of ALIENS, but not really finding the balance.

I don't know; I'm still holding out hope, and reserve a proper judgement untill I've seen it.

Ah, come on Thor...you know that's far too logical a comment to make about a film no-one has seen yet!

The acting looks atrocious. Or maybe it was just the cringe worthy dialog.

Obviously? No. Not on this planet, or even whatever planet you're living on.

As always I’m cautiously optimistic. I’m hoping that:
1. It’s worth the wait.
2. It’s not more of us watching people discovering the hard way what we’ve known for almost 40 years.
3. Weyland/Yutani has already scouted the “Paradise Planet” thoroughly and is not sending the colonization crew of Covenant into a (oops, forgot about LV-426, however many years later) – never mind!

This certainly looks familiar:

Hooded figure scares off certain desert dwellers and rescues young Jedi?

Or maybe just an irate farmer: “I done told you kids, stay outta my wheatfields! Go on, now, ‘for I sic the dogs on ye!”

I'm not a big fan of this series outside of the first film--which reminds me of the Dr Who adventure "The Ark in Space"--but I thought this trailer looked okay, actually.

The acting looks atrocious. Or maybe it was just the cringe worthy dialog.

It looks loosely acted, and the "last supper" scene is trite, just another variation on things seen in previous Alien movies, which I think will sum up the entire movie, "obviously." But it seems to have more likable actors and I hope a less pretentious, addle-brained approach than the ultimate bore that Prometheus was.

To me it has a teen slasher vibe. Pretty low brow.

I'm sure I'll enjoy this movie. I guess I never have high expectations for these things.

The original Alien was lightning in a bottle. It came out at a perfect time and shocked everyone because it was visceral in a way that few movies before it were - the perfect blend of Star Wars meets The Exorcist. That was 70's cinema in a nutshell. Everything was new & unexpected back then. I don't understand people that expect that this is going to happen again.

This movie feels like a response to those who didn't care for Prometheus (which I enjoyed, for the most part). Ridley Scott probably knows that he can't shock anyone at this point, so he just wants to make a beautifully shot, stylish little yarn. More power to him. If we get a decent story on top of that, then I'll be pleasantly surprised. If we get a "Rogue One" version of Alien, then even better.

As long as it's not that silly Alien vs Predator nonsense, I'm good.

Is there any surprise in these movies anymore? It feels like the trailer is just hitting every single note we know. It's a very basic premise, which worked great twice, but maybe that's all there is. No shame in that, but why is Scott still spending his time on these?

Thanks, FredGarvin! You've helped me realize something that should have been obvious to me, really. You're perfectly correct about the first film and after "Aliens", I shouldn't be expecting much more than "yarns". There's likely no "Rosetta Stone" over the horizon for the genre.
Certainly there's nothing wrong with episodic treatments like "Prometheus" and this one just as long as we're not led to believe that this or the next will fill in all the blanks.

BTW, are you still "working" and do you still wear the truss? smile

SchiffyM, I agree with you and FredGarvin.
As to Scott's motivation, perhaps it has to do with wanting to expand his "Alien" mythology, use the films as allegory, maybe it's about money and ego.

As it is now, I can't help but think that one surprise remaining might be a followup to the question asked and answered in "Aliens": "So who's laying all these eggs?".
So, who's fathering all these eggs?

Ha, ha....allow me to sit back and enjoy the spectacle when you try to argue that ALIEN is NOT considered a classic film.
