So what you're saying is that there were 2 separate Best Actress cards? In addition to the Best Picture card? As I recall, Beatty did open an envelope, look puzzled, then show it to Faye Dunaway, who announced LA LA LAND. So then all the LLL people whoop and holler and come up on stage and make a number of thank You speeches. Then the LLL producer announces there's been a mistake, and a dumbfounded Beatty explains that it's really MOONLIGHT, and they hold up the Best Picture card announcing MOONLIGHT. Much consternation, especially with most of the audience standing. But, what I wonder is whether Beatty somehow got hold of Emma Stone's envelope and card, thinking it was the Beat Picture announcement. I don't remember him breaking a seal, only opening an envelope. Meaning Beatty made the mistake.

One of my Facebook buddies just pointed out to me the funniest line about the Oscars so far. We need Jack Nicholson to start slapping Faye Dunaway as she yells, "Moonlight (slap), La La Land (slap), Moonlight (slap), La La Land (slap)" until she finally screams, "It's Moonlight and La La Land!" Hahaha, I like that. Well, the Chinatown 45th anniversary is just two or three years away.

from the Hollywood Reporter http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/oscars-we-sincerely-apologize-moonlight-la-la-land-accounting-firm-says-980846 After a stunning and surreal mistake that may be the worst Academy Awards telecast flub in history, the accounting firm in charge of the ballot-counting process is clarifying its role. "We sincerely apologize to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for best picture," said PricewaterhouseCoopers, which has overseen the Academy's ballot-counting process for 83 years. The statement added: "The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred. We appreciate the grace with which the nominees, the Academy, ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel handled the situation." PwC has had Brian Cullinan and Martha Ruiz as co-ballot leaders overseeing the process for several years. The company touted that the ballot briefcases had made stops in 11 cities across the U.S. before making its way to Hollywood for the big day.
