...I work with him! The grocery store, where I work, just hired a new cashier and we were talking about Dan Aykroyd whom we both have met. And Dan Aykroyd signed his copy of 1941. Well then we really got into how much we both love the film. BTW, Aykroyd couldn't have been nicer to me when I met him years ago, he was very nice!smile

I ADORE "1941"!!!

But I never met anyone associated with it.
Great to hear that Dan is the kind of good people I hoped he is.

Hi buddy! Welcome to the 1941 club! And Dan is easily the nicest celebrity I have ever met.

If you've read this board for any number of years, you'll know there are quite a few fans of "1941" around out there. They exist. embarrassment

Well, I say, if you find another person that loves 1941... marry him!

My favorite part of the movie, Slim Pickens pretending to take a dump while Christopher Lee and Toshiro Mifune listen to it.

High-brow humor at it's best, a glorious mess of a movie.

'A glorious mess of a movie' is THE perfect summing up of it.
It's terrible and brilliant, sometimes at the same time.
I have a lot of like for it and what a fantastic music score John Williams gave it.

There's some fantastic miniature/model work in the film. And the score was a blast. And Nancy Allen was really sexy. And it had Dumbo in it. So I guess I got something out of it. Anybody see my trivia I posted a month or so ago? The naked lady who got stuck on the periscope was the same model/actress that became Bruce's first victim in Jaws?

Yep, there are a number of us around here. I laughed out loud in the theater way back when, and even today on Blu Ray, way too long, too big, too loud, I love this goofy movie. big grin

I love the film. Yes, it is dumb and low brow, but it supposed to be. It was a homage to the comedy of the Three Stooges, Abbott and Costello, and Martin and Lewis. Spielberg did exactly what he wanted to do; the critics just didn't get it.

I liked it but haven't seen it in years. Will have to rewatch, good reminder.

It's a very weak film (basically 2 hours of non-stop screaming and explosions), and unquestionably Spielberg's worst. Even Williams' score adds to the mayhem, but works better on album.

Hi guys! I know there have been other threads about liking the film, but I didn't think people LOVED it like I do. It's nice to see.smileAnyone on the fence about buying the Blu-ray should buy it. It has two versions of the film plus extras. If you get it in the STEVEN SPIELBERG DIRECTOR'S COLLECTION it has disc art, but if you get it individually it doesn't. Plus you get DUEL, THE SUGARLAND EXPRESS, JAWS, E.T., ALWAYS, JURASSIC PARK and THE LOST WORLD.

Wow! What a relief. I feared he was going to appear and call it iconic and one of Spielberg's "masterpieces."

I think I may have actually gotten Thor to dial back the hyperbole, which is a good thing, but I actually agree with him that it is a weak comedy.

It kind of, not quite but almost, makes IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD look like a masterpiece.

And now for the defenders of MAD WORLD..... take it away, boys.
