Should have been given the nobel prize for that Roots theme. Its not too strong to say it was a hard-hitting, world-changing series with unbelievably powerful music.

Does he want his e-mail publically displayed?

It doesn't matter whether youy ask him -- people like annonymity, especially film composers. Some will put their private e-mail on their websites, most will have one set up just for contacts fro mtheir website, but it's in poor taste to post a person's e-mail when it's not public. Why not just post John Williams' e-mail? Hans Zimmer's e-mail? David Newman's e-mail? That's not how it works -- you don't post someone's private and then ask the person after the fact.

How about you do the right thing and respect a person's privacy? And no, you should be handing out his or any other composer's private e-mail behind the scenes either without their approval. What you're doing is wrong and you're just to justify it. There is no justification. You think I go around posting a composer's private e-mail if they haven't made it public? You think I share a composer's private e-mail with just anybody who asks in e-mail or PM's? I repect their privacy. Hell, why don't you just post his home phone number, too.

When we think of the "legends" of that generation that are still with us, we tend to include Williams, Morricone, Legrand, Jones, Schifrin. But Fried is seldom mentioned. Too bad, because he's done some really great stuff. I love SHOTGUN SLADE, in particular. Speaking of which, I just came back from the Nordic Film Music Days in Berlin, where the 92-year-old(!) Danish composer Bent Fabricius-Bjerre (aka Bent Fabric) was being nominated for Lifetime Achievement. His voice is rusty, he doesn't walk as well as before, but he still buzzes around in denim jeans and stylish sweaters. And he scored a film just last year (ALBERT), effectively making him the world's oldest active film composer. I love when that happens. And I seem to remember that Fried recently did a new score too?

I kinda understand what both LC and justin are saying and theyre both right. I think in the spirit of the few enthusiasts posting here, it might be nice for mr Fried to get some appreciative fan mail and best wishes, given his age.

Happy Birthday Mr Fried - always enjoyed his UNCLE music in particular. There's a nice set of interviews with him on YouTube: see for example this segment where he discusses Gilligan's Island, UNCLE, Ben Casey and Star Trek. It must be tough to remember much about music that was written so long ago, but he does an amazingly good job of recalling it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2WkF0p-G2U&feature=youtu.be
