So, I have the 20th anniversary edition from Cinevox. The sound is very flat, with no life in it at all. Do any of the subsequent releases improve on it?

Back in the Napster days, I downloaded a couple of tracks that sounded fantastic, lots of bass, some reverb added, much better than the 20th anniversary edition. Anyone know if that was on an official release or just a fan mix?

Might have been off of the old Varese Sarabande release. There was a 35th anniversary release from Cinevox a couple years ago. Don't know how it holds up.

It has never sounded good.I had it on vinyl in the early 80s and have a couple of CD's.We need a complete release with proper mastering.

I bought the relatively recent Rambling Records remastered release from Japan, and find the sound quite dynamic. I don't have previous versions to compare it to, though.

That'd be hard considering how much of the "score" was just library tracks from Chappell.

I remember the Varese vinyl sounding pretty good, but have never been satisfied with any of the CD releases. Definitely flat and muted. Is the Rambling Records Japanese version still available anywhere?

This rip from the Varese vinyl definitely sounds better than the 20th anniversary CD.

Incidentally, I just rewatched the ZOMBI European cut for the first time in over a decade and man, Argento just slathers the score all over everything with no rhyme or reason. It really doesn't work. Romero used just enough of the Goblin material and in all the right places.

Argento sure loved that 'Shriek' Zaratozom for the last reels, eh?

Yes : http://www.yesasia.com/global/zombi-japan-version/1037490016-0-0-0-en/info.html

I'll have to listen again to the Ramling remastered reissue and compare it the Lp-rip version put on Youtube, which is, I have to admit at first glance, quite impressive.

UPDATE: I've been listening to the the two versions back-to-back and I have to admit, I prefer the Lp-rip version...

The Rambling Records is, actually, a remastered Cinevox album.
