MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13

KONG: SKULL ISLAND---new tv commercial released.

Commercial link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnwFDgfNJhE

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY---a photo reportedly of Klingons from the new tv series was posted by Adam MacKay, who plays a Klingon. The caption said, “Hangin out with my new Klingon Crew today on set of the new #startrek.” The photo was later removed.

GREYHOUND---Tom Hanks is the star/writer of this Sony Pictures World War II movie based on the novel by CS Forester (THE AFRICAN QUEEN, Horatio Hornblower novels) about an older Navy officer, plagued by self-doubt, who is finally given command of a destroyer that will escort a convoy across the Atlantic.

THE BATMAN---Matt Reeves (DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES) will replace Ben Affleck as the director of the Batman solo movie.

HAN SOLO---Thandie Newton (WESTWORLD) is in talks to co-star in the young Han Solo movie in an undisclosed role.

JURASSIC WORLD 2---Ted Levine (THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS) has joined the sequel cast in an undisclosed role.

THE GARBO NETWORK---Oscar Isaac (STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS) stars in this biomovie about World War II double agent Juan Pujol Garcia, code name "Garbo", whose misinformation about the true location of the D-Day invasion was critical in the success in the Normandy invasion.

THE CATCHER WAS A SPY---Paul Rudd, Paul Giamatti, Jeff Daniels and Guy Pearce star in this biomovie about pro baseball player Mo Berg and his career as a World War II spy for the OSS.

HOLD THE DARK---movie underway based on the novel about a wolf expert who investigates a wolf pack that has killed children in a remote Alaskan town when one of the victims' mother mysteriously disappears. Jeffrey Wright (WESTWORLD), Alexander Skarsgard (TRUE BLOOD), Riley Keough (Elvis Presley's granddaughter) and James Badge Dale (13 HOURS) star.

BLADE RUNNER 2049---director Denis Villeneuve (ARRIVAL) said he emphasized practical special effects over CGI for the sequel, "I’m very old school. I wish I had the chance to do my aliens as animatronics. That was my dream at the beginning [of ARRIVAL]. We were dreaming to put them in a gigantic aquarium with gigantic beasts that would be moved by puppeteers. But sadly, it would have been too expensive. I hate green screens. It sucks out all my energy. I get depressed. I have an admiration for directors who can work with that on a daily basis. For BLADE RUNNER, we tried our best to do as much as possible in-camera, building everything.”

BLACK HOLE---sci fi movie underway about a team of scientists, soldiers and astronauts who try to prevent the destruction of the Earth after a black hole enters the solar system which causes monstrous meteorites, gigantic volcanoes and a second Ice Age. Brad Peyton (SAN ANDREAS) is the director.

HOTEL ARTEMIS---Jodie Foster and Dave Bautista star in this sci fi movie about a nurse who runs an underground hospital for Los Angeles' most notorious criminals and discovers one of the patients is an assassin who has targeted another patient.

THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE--director Chris McKay spoke about villains he wanted but didn't appear in the movie, “I would have had Kathy Bates from MISERY, and [Sherlock Holmes nemesis] Moriarty, and at one point I pitched Daniel Day-Lewis’s character from GANGS OF NEW YORK and David Carradine from KILL BILL. At a certain point, though, you have to weigh what characters the kids going to get. In LEGO, it’s sometimes hard to get a really quick interpretation of something. I was already worried that we weren’t doing enough with some characters. Also, at one point, we did put HAL from [2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY] into the movie, but it was a tough read. Maybe in future movies, we’ll try to bring more characters in.”

ANT MAN AND THE WASP---Michael Douglas confirmed he's returning for the sequel.

DUMBO--Will Smith is no longer involved with the Tim Burton remake movie due to salary and schedule problems.

X-MEN: THE NEW MUTANTS---director Josh Boone hinted that Maisie Williams (GAME OF THRONES) will play Wolfsbane in the movie.

X-MEN: SUPERNOVA---Sophie Turner (GAME OF THRONES) confirmed she's returning as Jean Grey for the movie.

WONDER WOMAN---director Patty Jenkins followed Arnold Schwarzenegger on Twitter which led to speculation he might appear in the movie.

SCARFACE---Peter Berg (PATRIOTS DAY, LONE SURVIVOR) and David Mackenzie (HELL OR HIGH WATER) are the top candidates to replace Antoine Fuqua as the director of the remake movie.

THE PRE-NUP---romantic comedy movie in which a future bride and groom and their families negotiate their pre-nuptial agreement. Alice Eve (STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS), Emile Hirsch (SPEED RACER) and Vanessa Hudgens (SUCKER PUNCH) star.

PEELERS---synopsis released for the VOD strippers vs. zombies movie.

"Former baseball player Blue Jean Douglas is closing down her small-town strip club and leaving for good. But her plans are not so easily attained when a group of coal miners show up and with them a deadly contaminant. What starts out as a last hurrah for the infamous strip club, turns into a blood bath. With time running out, Blue Jean must step up to the plate to try and put a stop to the spread of destruction before it’s too late and she loses everything she holds dear."

PRINCESS DIANA---untitled Princess Diana ABC/PEOPLE magazine four-hour biodocumentary will premiere in August.

SCALPED---WGN America pilot underway based on the comic book.

Klingons by Giger?

Well put. This is a sign that the new art direction will have no respect for what came before.

Poor Klingons, always changing. No wonder they're nasty. Change can be a bitch.

ST:TMP and later films didnt respect the TV show Klingons, but at least the new TV shows followed the films for consistency. These new Klingons are probably the result of the "Abrams Effect" or reboot mentality where you change things just for the sake of it.

Matt Reeves... will replace Ben Affleck as the director of the Batman solo movie.

That's fine by me. That way, Ben can focus on continuing to be the best cinematic Batman of all time (sorry, skinny screamy Welsh guy).

Star Trek Axanar had the best looking Klingons if you have to meld the old with the new. (TOS/TMP).
I never liked the TMP Klingons. They suffered from the Star Wars syndrome.

Sort of. Their ears disappeared sometime between the movies and the TNG era. And I could have sword in the DS9 episode where Kurn was trying to commit suicide that he had chest ridges that we've never seen before or since. And while it's not quite the same, they definitely refined the Klingon look over time even within TNG and DS9.

For me, the exciting movie news of the day is the first look at Terrence Malick's latest production:

Hey, this is a Star Track thread, so stop talking about Batman!

(Adam West was the best Captain Kirk of all time)

What are you doing -- posting non-STAR TREK stuff in yet another news-thread-turned-STAR TREK discussion? How rude! big grin

I already posted something along those lines! Besides, this IS* a Star Track-Star Wars message board, so learn to be marginalized!

Probably. I hate STAR TREK, but I love STAR WARS. Unfortunately for me, the former seems to FAR outweigh the latter in this forum.

I've grown to hate Star Wars--there's no "there" there--but still have a soft spot for the original Trek, even though I am merely a casual fan of the series. There are threads started here that assume everyone reading is an obsessive fan of the franchise. I'd love to punish you all by doing that with Woody Allen films, but I'm just not as spiteful as the average sci-fi nerd.

A couple of rounds of "Sleeper" should do it.
But then they might accidentally turn into fans after they see how good it is.

Kinda goes with the territory. What did LLL say? Best selling scores are sci fi, fantasy, and superheros. That's not to take away from other things like Woody Allen films. We just know our "other" interests are not mainstream interests.
