Was looking at the Booklet for the Intrada PLAYERS CD release and it was noted that the critics seemed to agree that the best things about the movie were Pancho Gonzales' fun and humorous performance and Jerry Goldsmith's score. The music was always one of my most wanted of Jerry's unreleased scores and I was thrilled when Doug and the Intrada Team finally let us have it! Jerry's Main "Wimbledon" Fanfare Theme and his Love Theme were totally awesome in my book. The two themes appearance in the finale and end titles were simply marvelous as Jerry would comment thanking his orchestra for their performance on the score. Doug included a Bonus Cue where you can hear Jerry's appreciation for his PLAYERS. Although I kind of enjoyed the movie as slightly entertaining I would definitely say it was a case in Jerry's output where the music was truly better that the movie. It was nice for Jerry to finally score a "Love Story" which I remember him saying he had hoped to do.

On a personal note. I was lucky to have met Dean Paul Martin when I was a D.J. at a Club at the top of the La Baron Hotel in San Jose California back in 1982. He was in town with his wife Dorothy Hamil for a tennis tournament he was playing in. I was still spinning LP Albums in those days mixing on two Technics Turntables and had a great collection of LP's to choose from. I'd bring a lot of my own stuff in and sometimes play movie music that had a dance beat for slow dances and such. Also liked playing the oldies and on the night that Dean Paul came in to the club I happened to have a Dino Desi and Billie Album in my bins. He was so nice and agreed to sign it and I asked if it was okay to play it. He kindly asked me not to and I honored his wishes. He seemed a sweet man and I was saddened to hear of his passing years later in a Jet Crash. Rest in Peace sir.
