HARRY POTTER---a journalist who has close contacts with Warner Bros., said Warner Bros. may be developing a new movie trilogy based on the play HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD, "They not only have Potter, they have Fantastic Beasts and, supposedly, if you drill down into the language of the deal, they also have – when they’re finally made – the trilogy of movies that will be based on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child." He also said said the first movie would premiere in 2026 and, "I have heard that Warner Bros. has actually had conversations with [Emma Watson], with Rupert [Grint], and, of course, Daniel [Radcliffe] about Cursed Child, ‘cause they want this to be, for lack of a better term, Harry Potter: The Force Awakens. They want this trilogy of movies to have the actors that we know and love from the original films, that we watched grow up, as adults. And, of course, they’re hiring a bunch of new, younger actors to play their children with the hope that, if we can lean on J.K. [Rowling], maybe there’ll be The Cursed Adolescent.” In the past, Warner Bros. denied it is planning a movie trilogy based on the play.

I guess Hollywood didn't learn anything from Ghostbusters.

And a remake would be a shame, because Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a perfect film !!!!

...but it is itself a remake of Bedtime Story (1964) staring Marlon Brando & David Niven.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 20

NASTY WOMEN---Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson are in talks to star in the MGM all-female remake of DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS. The 1988 con man movie starred Michael Caine and Steve Martin.

While this movie hardly a classic or perfect, it has 2 hilarious scenes, one of which in and of itself a classic: "Ruprecht, the Monkey Boy". I laughed and laughed about this scene for days. When I saw it in the theatre, I was an absolute giggling mess for the rest of the picture. It came absolutely from nowhere and Steve Martin's contorted face throughout was icing on the cake. Hell, I'm giggling about it now.

THE WAILING---Ridley Scott is in negotiations for the US remake of the South Korean supernatural movie about a policeman, a shaman and a mysterious woman who investigate gruesome murders in a mountain village.

I urge anyone who likes horror to watch the Korean original. Generally speaking the Koreans do horror better than the Americans. They don't hold back. While I love Ridley Scott, I'm not sure doing a big budget remake would do any service to this disturbing and bone chilling tale of possession.
