JAMES CAMERON'S STORY OF SCIENCE FICTION---AMC documentary series from James Cameron, who said, “With this series, we are going back to the origins of sci-fi, following the DNA of these ideas back to the source. Without Jules Verne and H.G. Wells there wouldn’t have been Ray Bradbury or Robert A. Heinlein, and without them, there wouldn’t be Lucas, Spielberg, Ridley Scott or me. As a filmmaker who specializes in science fiction, I’m interested in exploring the struggles and the triumphs that brought these incredible stories to life and seeing how art imitates life, as well as how science fiction imitates and sometimes informs science.” There will be six, one-hour episodes which will premiere in 2018.

STAR WARS---Lucasfilm denied a report that it was in talks with Carrie Fisher's estate to create a CGI Leia for future movies, "We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.
Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars."

GAME OF THRONES---HBO programing head Casey Bloys commented on Season 8 which will be the last season, “The only thing we’re working out is how many episodes they want to do. They’re still figuring it out because I think they’re trying to get a shape of the season. They always do what they think [will yield] the best version of the show. It’s all about how many they’re comfortable [with]. But I’ll always take more. If you’re afraid we’re not going to do an eighth season, I assure you we’re going to.”
Bloys commented on a spinoff series, “All I can say is that we’re exploring it. We don’t have any scripts, we’re not even close to saying ‘Oh let’s do this.’ But it’s a big enough property that we would be foolish not to explore it. It’s a really rich world. We’d be foolish not to look at it.”
He said a prequel series might be a better alternative to a spinoff, "A prequel feels like it has less pressure on it [than a spinoff]. [Author George R.R. Martin's history of Westeros] gives you areas in which to say to a writer, 'If you were going to do this, then go flesh it out,' and we'll see what comes back. But I don't feel any pressure that we have to have something."
Bloys also commented on the DEADWOOD movie, “I haven’t read [series creator David Milch]’s script yet. I know he’s working on it. But I have not seen anything yet.” He said about the chances of the movie being made, “I couldn’t even put odds on it. I don’t want to get your hopes up or disappoint you in any way, so I’ll just say I don’t have any news. Which I truly don’t.”

SHERLOCK---the latest episode drew only 5.9 million viewers which is the lowest overnight rating in the series' history and the first time ratings dipped below ten million since Season 2. The ratings may have been lower because a Russian version of the episode leaked online before the UK version aired. The BBC commented on the leak, "BBC Worldwide takes breaches of our stringent content security protocols very seriously and we have initiated a full investigation into how this leak has occurred.”
Creator Mark Gatiss reacted to another possible cause of the lower ratings---criticism that Season 4 is too complicated and confusing, "People ask if it's good to challenge the audience. Of course it fu*king is. Why would you not want to challenge your audience?...Go and read a children's book with hard pages if you don't want to be challenged. We're making the show we want to make. We don't make it a certain way because fans are pressuring us."

THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD---BBC/AMC miniseries underway based on the John le Carre novel. Le Carre said, “I’m very excited by the project, and have great confidence in the team." Simon Beaufoy (SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE) will write the script. The 1965 movie based on the novel starred Richard Burton, Oskar Werner and Claire Bloom.

THE ALIENIST---Dakota Fanning will play Sara Howard, a "headstrong secretary at a police headquarters" in the TNT miniseries based on the novel about a criminal psychologist, a journalist and New York Police Commissioner Theodore Roosevelt who team up to stop a serial killer in 1896 New York. Daniel Bruhl and Luke Evans also star.
TNT renewed GOOD BEHAVIOR for Season 2.

JAMES BOND---Tom Hardy commented on reuniting with Christopher Nolan for a James Bond movie, “You know, there’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race. So I can’t possibly comment on that one! If I mention it, it’s gone.
But Chris Nolan, what a fantastic director for a Bond movie. Because Daniel (Craig) is so good, and what (Sam) Mendes and Barbara (Broccoli) have done has been so impressive, that it would be a very hard re-imagination to follow after.
I wonder what the next installment of that franchise would become, and I think when you mention someone like Christopher Nolan, that’s a very powerful figure to bring into that world who could bring something new and create something profound…again.”

THE MIST---executive producer Christian Thorpe commented on the Spike TV series based on the Stephen King novel and the 2007 Frank Darabont movie, “I personally love Mr. [Frank Darabont’s] ending. I thought it was a stroke of genius. We are playing around in that territory and we also know, of course, Mr. King’s ending. And I know Mr. King actually preferred Darabont’s ending. And so I think we came up with our own spin on a very original and surprising ending.”

BARRY---HBO/Bill Hader comedy series about a hitman who wants to change professions and become an actor.

MARS---National Geographic Channel renewed the series for Season 2.

HEATHERS---TV Land series remake of the 1988 movie is underway.

PORTLANDIA---IFC renewed the series for Season 8 which will be the last.
