Thanks to Varese Sarabande, 2016 showed a slight uptick in the number of soundtrack LPs released on CD, compared to 2015. Varese accounted for 12 of the 25 domestic conversions. But 25 was still the second lowest number since I began keeping a record in 2008. I suppose it gets ever more difficult each year to find worthy candidates for conversion, to say nothing of the lessened interest each year in recordings from that bygone era. Here is the history:

2016 - 25
2015 - 17
2014 - 31
2013 – 43
2012 – 27
2011 – 29
2010 – 41
2009 – 38
2008 – 55

Here are the domestic LPs that were first (legitimately) issued on CD in 2016, followed by a selection of foreign LP conversions:

Actually our release of The Red Balloon had nothing to do with the Nonesuch album, which is a whole different beast with entirely different music and not a note of the actual soundtrack score.

Thanks, for compiling and sharing this, Bob.

If I had to choose a favorite (which I don't, but what the hay), it would be:

    Bunny Lake Is Missing (Paul Glass) [RCA] {Intrada, January 2016}

EDIT: What the hay was I thinking with Bernstein's Ten Commandments on the list?!

Good to know. I took it off the list.

Well done Bob, I look forward to this every year, see what LPs have fallen.

Commissaire Moulin Et Autres Scènes De Crimes was indeed previously released on LP, but only in 2015 (not in the 1970's when the music was composed and recorded). It is a compilation LP dedicated to one composer but the tracks are mostly unrelated to each other and were never released together before 2015. So I'm not sure if it counts for the purpose of this list.

Is this really every LP to CD Varese did in 2016? I thought there were more. At the very least they premiered their LP program of Deadly Friend on CD (the Perseverance promo was a different program).

I don't own DEADLY FRIEND. Is there significant music on the LP which does not appear on the CD?

I agree with you. I didn't notice the release date of the LP. Removed.

It's a totally different program. The Perseverance CD (which again was apparently a promo, not an officially licensed release) featured the premiere of the orchestral score from the film. The Varese LP program, issued on CD this past year in their Little Box of Horrors, was marked as a CD premiere because it consisted of the electronic scoring for the film, as well as synth demos of some of the orchestral compositions (presumably all that was available for the LP at the time, or perhaps it was simply cheaper not to have to pay orchestral re-use).
