Well, see, this is where there will always be a misalignment of purpose: I don't come here to debate.
Debating on the internet is 99.9% futile. If I happen to get caught up in one it's entirely unintentional.
Primarily, I come here for pleasant and/or interesting conversation on music, the human condition and toilet humor.
(And the occasional glib remark about an art form.)

Yeah, that might be the biggest difference between us, which is why we should probably not be 'debating' too much. But I'm sure we'll get along in other ways.

You're right, it is a waste of time. The person I'm typing too will never change their opinon. But sometimes, "debating" actually lets me clarify my own thoughts on a movie or score, enjoy it more, and find new things about it I like! big grin

Hey Thor, are you still around? Sometimes people don’t move from their OPINIONS on something, and then it is time to just say, “We agree to disagree,” and move on. We should do that more often.

Yes and no, IMO. If it's just a matter of preference against preference, I agree. But part of the pleasure of discussing on a forum is formulating and perhaps reformulating your own arguments if they are being challenged. Getting to know not only what the other guy means, but perhaps also clarify your own viewpoints -- for yourself.

[edit: I see that Aidabaida eerily echoed this argument above, before I posted this]

Aid has been a bit better about now and then saying, “In my opinion,” but I’ve not wanted to post on the Dark Knight topic or some of his other topics, even though he asked for “thoughts” because he argues a lot with thoughts or opinions different from his. (Not always, but A Lot.) He will gush about the perfection of a movie and score and ask for thoughts. He is adamant in his gushing. Some others are just as adamant in their dislike for a movie, score or composer. That is the nature of opinions.

Yeah, but I don't really see the problem in that. In fact, I consider it a VIRTUE to be passionate in one's defense or criticism of something. If Aidabaida has a little bit of 'my opinion is superior' (which, to be honest, I can't really see -- or marginally, at best), then I'll put it on the tab of youthful vigour. No problem.

Now, if this is all a hoax, and Aidabaida is not a teen (the name does sound a bit like the teasing rhyme that kids use, after all), then I'm ready to re-evaluate. But for now, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. I'm likewise fascinated by the attention his posts are spawning, mostly because I don't understand WHY!

So what's left?
Drinking!
That's what!
big grin

(Kidding. I have a few ryes once in a while. Or a spot of wine.)

I'll second that. Maybe I don't understand how the inter webs works.....but I don't understand why he's copping so much flak.

looks to me like about 90 per cent of the forum will be having some of that. Sounds like a great deal, Soli. And its cheap. What could be wrong with that? I'll have some if ive got any money left after ive paid for Howard's bridge. wink

Well, we can laugh now, but in 25 years, when we're all going back and forth in our interplanetary crafts -- it's a STEAL!

I had the same reaction when you said PROMETHEUS was a good movie, but I couldnt find a site that could explain that.
