It was a productive year for him with 5 scores.

We got City Hall, Executive Decision, Chain Reaction, Ghost and the Darkness, and Star Trek: First Contact. It's nice that we have complete versions of 4 of these scores

I like First Contact the best.

It is a tie between Chain Reaction and Executive Decision for me. Love both scores.

"Star Trek: First Contact" without a doubt.

I would pick "Star Trek- First Contact" or "GITD"

Ghost and the Darkness. Possibly, my outright love for the film biases me. Yes, it's cheesy, but, boy that movie gave me a good scare when I was probably far, far too young to see it smile Goldsmith's music is just dynamite.

A productive year for Goldsmith, yes, but maybe his dullest. I'll choose City Hall, but I'd rather talk about the Goldsmith of 1978, 1966, 1995, or most any other year. smile

As a Goldsmith fan, I recall this year vividly. While the action/bombastic cues from Executive Decision and The Ghost and the Darkness are great, I'd probably have to go with First Contact overall, just for the theme alone (and overall theatrical experience at the time of Goldsmith returning to Star Trek with a good film).

Interesting subject title i.e. may I recommend Chateau Goldsmith, vintage '96?

I'd pick ST:FC, no doubt, but I have to agree with a previous post that it was a dull year for JG.

I am going to go with The Ghost In the Darkness only because Star Trek was already familiar territory for him.

I forgot -- he had one more score that year, the rejected "2 Days in the Valley".

Ghost and the Darkness is the best score he did that year, but First Contact has my favorite theme. I personally think it was a year of good (and perhaps underrated) scores, not absolutely five-star great ones, from the master.

First Contact, mainly for the theme. Also, that terrific climatic cue "First Contact", which is Goldsmith at his best.

In all honesty, this gets my vote.
