I've been very busy at work but following this thread waiting for someone to give the right answer - 1969:
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Midnight Cowboy Easy Rider Hello Dolly Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice Paint Your Wagon True Grit OHMSS Winning Z The Wild Bunch Where Eagles Dare Topaz Mackenna's Gold The Reivers Battle of Britain Quiemada The Damned The Italian Job Kes Monte Carlo Or Bust Oh! What a Lovely War The Illustrated Man The Red Tent Sabata The Sicilian Clan
And if all that wasn't enough, Carry On Camping should clinch it...
I think you're wrong (take that!), the fact that it's favourite year & not best year means it would be a choice from your earlier years. I said teens & twenties & your favourite is when you were 22, proves my point...& how can you have an objective evaluation when talking about a favourite? It's totally subjective (sounding like Woody Allen dialogue now).
I beg to disagree. Both approaches have elements of subjectivity, true, but one is less reliant on nostalgia than the other. If I had to choose my favourite/nostalgic year, I would obviously not have chosen 1999. Probably something between the mid 80s or early 90s. But once I take a step back and perceive the insane brilliance of the films this year (read the list above), it's an easy choice. I don't really have a nostalgic relationship to any 1999 film. I was "too old". Rather, it's all quality cinema when viewed with these old, contemporary eyes.
