James Fitzpatrick mentioned last year that there'd be a new recording of a Barry title in 2017. Not Moonraker. Which are the likely candidates?

I'd assume he's doing it for Prometheus, like the last two, Mister Moses and The Betsy. Something along those lines?

A recording of John Barry TV work is in the pipeline...

I've clearly missed something. Where did you see the announcement that Tadlow/Prometheus are recording another Barry?

There was discussion of a TV scores recording, but I wasn't aware that ever got past the discussion phase. Have I missed something there too?

I haven't heard of anything else. In fact, at one point, due to poor sales of Mister Moses and The Betsy, it was stated that Prometheus was most definitely finished with sponsoring Barry recordings.

And, Luc Van De Ven once told me he had zero interest in funding any more Barry recordings.

Has this changed?

I hope so. Please point me at the announcements.

Cheers

I may in the minority, but would love an expanded Legend of the Lone Ranger.

I was reading the post in question today (under the Tadlow account and not the JamesFitz account) and it did say a Barry in 2017. Only problem is I can't find the damn thing now! I'm still looking, bear with me.

You better old boy!

Calm down Davros... always so impatient.*

Still looking... resorted to a post by post search of Tadlow now... I will find it!

*That would have made more sense if you hadn't removed the picture.

Bingo! It was in one of the 'IS PARIS BURNING?' threads.

June 2nd 2016:

(referring to Is Paris Burning) "CD now manufactured. Nearly 140 minutes of music including bonus suites from other Jarre scores of the same period. Thief of Bagdad just needs final mastering. 150 minutes of music. Duel in Sun sessions start in 10 days... Then virtually committed to record another Jarre score next year along with more epic Rozsa and some John Barry...."

He ruled out it being Moonraker on the same page. And the recording isn't going to be Eleanor and Franklin, because he's ruled that out in another thread (Nov 16):

(Question) "James, forgive me for going off topic, but on the plans for another John Barry score has the 2 Eleanor and Franklin TV mini-series' been ruled out yet ? I wanted you to see this question that is why I put it on this thread."

(James) "I have been looking at both Eleanor and Franklin TV films for a while....trouble is no scores and lots of music buried under dialogue.....

Love Among The Ruins? White Buffalo? They wouldn't be big sellers but neither were Mister Moses and The Betsy I recall (for shame)!

Perhaps someone has finally done what James kept asking on here and paid him £25,000 to record a score! smile

I remember James posting that he was recording some more Jarre and Barry, very intrigued to hear what they are. If recent more "obscure" Barry titles haven't sold particularly well, it may be that the upcoming one is better known.

Where did you hear this, by the way? smile Could it be another label?

Thanks folks.

So he's doing something and it's not the TV scores and it's not Moonraker.

Intriguing.

He hasn't ruled out it being a TV score. He just made it sound unlikely it was Eleanor and Franklin.

What you said above about Prometheus suggests it isn't them. Could it be Silva Screen? I doubt it's a Tadlow only project.
Curiouser and curiouser.

I am not sure whether James has revised his plans for the Barry and Jarre title.

James has stated a few times about the cost of the recordings and that Ben-Hur will be the last Tadlow release, unless the Jarre and the Barry titles are Prometheus releases. I guess we will have to wait and see!!!!

There was this campaign to raise funds for a TV scores recording, though I don't know how it went or if it's relevant to any upcoming release...

I have already done quite a lot of research into the unrecorded TV scores of John ... but musically apart from ELEANOR & FRANKLIN (both parts) there is nothing particularly inspiring... musically ... but it s an idea I am still looking at, but been rather busy with other projects past few months....

Ah, so the choice is still up in the air (or may not happen, depending on retirement plans?).
