That really sucks for those of us DVD people who aren't rich or lucky enough to upgrade to HD and Blu-ray. All the TT Titles with the Iso Scores too.

And just as hold-outs upgrade to Blu-ray, the newest wiz-bang disc type will already be settling in place and getting ready to be the next Blu-ray.

Once you upgrade to Blu ray there is no turning back. Blu ray isnt as expensive anymore. A decent player is just a good investment. Blurays dvds are also easy to upgrade via amazon, com when they have these superb sales during season holidays. they are worth it. Before investing in it I suggest you stop buying normal DVDs.

You can get a good, name brand Blu-ray player for between $50 and $70. The best part is, it will play your existing DVDs beautifully as well as Blu-ray discs, so your whole collection is still viable.

Thanks guys for all the encouragement to upgrade.

But I do have to buy a New TV as well, right? Like a Flat Screen HD TV that the Blu-ray player hooks up to. I imagine those are affordable these days as well? Have to do some research.

I've been watching my DVDs on my Mac Computer and I guess they don't play Blu-rays.

It still sucks though that they can't put out a Collection that includes both DVD and Blu-ray. I have the Blu-ray DVD Combo Set of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS which is totally cool and was so great that they did it that way.

I appreciate what Paramount Home Entertainment did with this set for EVERYBODY!

Zooba, you must visit bluray.com, they have a listing of top blu ray players as well as TV sets. To truly enjoy HD content a 1080p or 1080i supporting Slim tv set (Samsung- highly recommended) would be great.

You could also pick up Playstation 4 which supports Blu ray format and will upscale all your dvds to better resolution as well. PS3/PS4 are one of the most fastet bluray players I've seen. And the added bonus of video games is well another Pandora's box as the hobby goes.

If I had to re-buy my Blu-ray collection today (not that large, about 150 discs) it would cost me about 50% to 60% less than I originally paid, Blu-rays really are quite cheap these days. Of course you get the expensive releases like Criterion or Twilight Time, but most releases are very reasonably priced. And favourite old movies can look stunning, not always, but that's what online movie sites are for, read the reviews before you buy.

If you're still looking at a CRT TV and haven't gotten a flat screen HD TV, it's kind of like you're torturing yourself. You can get a 40" flat screen at Walmart for less than $300.

As for this Roddenberry Blu-ray, I think it costs too much. I'm not that into Star Trek.

For those into it, I hear it's worth the (reduced) price of $40 bucks. There's roughly 2 hours of extras on each disc. With (never before seen) bluescreen footage of the Enterprise. Including new shots of the Botany Bay, and various warp dome effects tests, before they got the look they wanted.

Basic Blu-Ray players are RIDICULOUSLY cheap at this point, as are discs (if you're willing to wait for a good sale, which happens frequently). I upgraded to Blu seven years ago, and the only DVDs left in my collection are MAYBE thirty or so movies that have yet to be upgraded to HD (plus some older TV shows that likely never will be upgraded). I kind of grumbled at the time, having built a formidable DVD collection since the late-90's, but now I pretty much refuse to buy anything on DVD if there's a Blu-Ray option.

Do you give "thumbs down" to every blu-ray/HDTV related product because you cant afford them?? Kind of ridiculous. And as everyone has said already, blu-ray and HDTVs are comparable prices to dvd players and CRTs. You can find them on sale, or cheap used models. Even if you have the equipment, you certainly dont need to buy every blu-ray disc that's released, but in this case, there's no way they'd release it in standard dvd video.
If it's any consolation the isolated audio tracks are regular dvd audio format (ac3), not lossless as one would expect, so that is a bit of a 'thumbs down.'

Blu-ray players are SO inexpensive now! You don't have to be rich or lucky.

I got a "cheap" Blu Ray player seven years ago for $60 dollars at Best Buy. Still works just fine. Though HD televisions were pretty expensive back then.

People also don't seem to realize that Blu-ray players will still play DVDs (as well as everything else) and will actually upscale your DVDs to 1080p on an HD TV. Your DVDs will look better!

Even $40 is too much. $25 would be more like it.

As you've already told us, you're not into it, and solium is, so no need to keep nagging us.

And I wanted to tell those who are on the fence some of the interesting content that might make it a desirable purchase. smile

As someone who owns it, I can say non-buyers wont miss much. Most of the deleted scene snippets arent much more interesting than if you had read about them. Outtakes/behind the scene shots could have been simply organized instead of peppered in over a few hours of gushing celebrity testimonials that viewers dont need to hear.
I had the mistaken impression the episodes themselves would have added footage. The perks are original mono audio (apparently omitted from earlier releases), a few commentary tracks, and 11 of 12 episodes have music-only stems (volume levels vary).
