Well, just another 80's symphonic score to add to the list of amazing works we need released. What an absolute work of beauty. This belongs in a ballet, not a forgotten 80's action thriller!

I only have two CD's by Towns (Puppetmasters and Full Circle) which are promo copies direct from the composer's agency.
I've heard good things about Wolves of Willoughby Chase but never gotten round to hearing it.
He's managed to keep busy in UK TV these past years.
That's certainly a nice piece of music you've linked bobb.

Can you describe the full score? Is it mostly in the vein of this piece?

A gorgeous piece. I love Colin Towns but hadn't heard a note from "Slayground" before (I rented a ton of films distributed by Thorn EMI when I was a kid, but not this one). Thank you for making us aware, bobbengan.

PollyAnna, I would also be curious to know how the entire "Slayground" score is...

I'm a huge fan of Slayground. It's one of the first movies I ever saw on TV. I get the feeling that a lot more score was recorded than what we hear in the film. There are lots of short electronic bits that are usually cut off or slowly dialed down - such as when Stone arrives in London. It's not until the carnival scene and following end credits that we actually get to hear that gorgeous tragic theme that played originally over the ice skating rehearsal.

I literally just watched it again last week. I though I was the only Slayground fan around here!

Of course, I'd be all over a CD release.

Interesting. I have this in my "to view" pile. I picked up the DVD (which can be had very inexpensively) primarily because it's an adaptation of one of Richard Stark's Parker novels.

I'm viewing it through rose colored glasses of nostalgia. It's a decent film, but when watching it you get a sense that there was a last minute restructuring that really hurts it. Moments that should be whole sequences are reduced to mere scenes. There's lots of really bad off screen ADR, I assume to fill in the story gaps. Some of it is quite obvious and doesn't even sync with the lip movements. Also the finale makes zero sense. I think they shot the ending twice and used bits of both (one character is killed in two different ways??)
The other killings are also not shown enough. We barely get to see the outcome of those moments.
What it does have going for it - strong performance from Coyote and the British cast, really good score that emerges more towards the climax, and some really good photography- they capture a real dirty, decrepit look in every frame - really gritty.
I also love the core concept of bad guys being hunted by the ultimate bad guy. It's definitely worth checking out. You will spot quite a few solid American and British character actors. I love it despite all of its many flaws. The end credit music is outstanding.

Totally agree. Cool trailer except for the blank screen at the end. That theme is first heard as source music for a scene in which a little girl is practicing her ice skating and then it appears again at the end in full after the resolution of the story in a gorgeous ascending crane shot that continues through the end credits.

Also, notice the car smashing a hidden stunt camera (to the left) as it flips over in slow motion.

Can't believe people have heard this one at all - My understanding is that it's a *very* obscure film. I'd be curious to know if the tapes still exist for this, even though the bigger problem might be Towns himself (he doesn't seem to have any interest whatsoever in his scores actually attaining a commercial release - As anyone who's broached him about SPACE TRUCKERS or RAWHEAD REX can attest.

The score is exactly as The Mutant describes. A wonderful theme but a different more electronic based underscore but nonetheless interesting with some really cool motifs. I think the movie is now available on DVD

Yep. I own the DVD which I think is easy to find. I saw it initially around 1984 on our Canadian movie channel "First Choice" and it always stuck with me, especially the opening shot of the car driving up the road with "Bad to the Bone" playing in the background.
Sorry to hear about the composer's attitude. I also wonder if he even composed the electronic bits or if they were taken from another film.

He's written as much electronic music as he has orchestral/lazz/etc., so it's safe to say it's probably his as well.

I really like the music I'm hearing in the Slayground trailer, and I find The Wolves of Willoughby Chase music equally enjoyable. Really lovely. I've never heard of this composer. So sad his music hasn't been released.

bobbengan, I also really enjoy the pure JOY you find in this music. Sometimes certain pieces of music just seem to infuse themselves into our souls and bring us such joyous uplifting moments.
