Late to this discussion, but to Mr. Audio's point, Morton Stevens did some wonderful work for THRILLER. I too have pulled the music from the M&E tracks on the DVD release. In my opinion, Mort's work may have been more consistently entertaining on THRILLER than Jerry's (and I've been a Jerry fan since the premiere of THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. over 50 years ago). That said, I fully understand James' point. We can't expect him to sink his own money into something he doesn't a) expect to do well or b) love to absolute pieces. Very interested to see what we finally get. I'm glad that I'm not the only one. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy Jerry Goldsmith's TV work and my favorite TV score by him happens to be THE HOMECOMING - A CHRISTMAS STORY which Mort Stevens hired Jerry to score since he was Music Supervisor for CBS back in 1971, but with that said, I just feel that Mort's TV scores are always much more musically interesting than Jerry's TV work. Again, it's just an a opinion, however I would still love to see the work of Goldsmith, Stevens and Rugolo included in a THRILLER box set as this would present "musically" the best of the series...:-)

But at least "The Premature Burial" and "Waxworks" were. Goldsmith was certainly a wonderful teacher and mentor to Stevens, and I'm sure that Jerry was grateful for Stevens (at that time C.B.S.' West Coast Music Director) to have him to score "The Homecoming" when his career was in a decline (when he only scored two feature films in '71).

Wonderful video! Love watching the chamber orchestra sized ensemble at work. This is going to be a favorite release for me this year, whatever else comes our way. Can't quite believe that a new recording of Jerry Goldsmith's Thriller is coming soon. I'm not sure we can fully realize just what a great period we're living in, even with all the many challenges to film music recordings' long-term health.
