WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7

BLADE RUNNER 2049---director Denis Villeneuve (ARRIVAL, SICARIO) commented on Harrison Ford starring in the sequel proves Rick Deckard not a replicant, who supposedly have four-year lifespans, "Not necessarily." Ridley Scott has said earlier that Deckard is a replicant, but Harrison Ford says Deckard is human.
Villeneuve also said he still wants to do a remake of DUNE which was recently acquired by Legendary Pictures and would be happy to meet with Legendary.

STAR TREK 4---Simon Pegg posted a photo of himself and co-writer Doug Jung which hinted they are returning to write the sequel to STAR TREK BEYOND. JJ Abrams recently said Chris Hemsworth will return as Captain Kirk's father after appearing in the first reboot movie.

INDIANA JONES 5---producer Frank Marshall commented on the sequel's status, “I really haven’t had any discussions yet about Indiana Jones. That’s now over at Disney and part of Lucasfilm, so we really haven’t any meetings on it. I really don’t know yet. I think there’s a release date of 2019, so that’s a year away.”
He said about the Bourne franchise, “I’d say the Bourne franchise is alive and well. And we’re certainly moving forward to continue making Bourne movies. These movies are one of a kind now because there are no more books to reference. One of the things we have done is we’ve opened it up. We have several new, fresh characters, and who knows where the next one is going to take us.”

DOCTOR WHO---Peter Capaldi commented on rumors that he's not returning because of declining ratings and new showrunner Chris Chibnall wants new actors to replace Capaldi and Pearl Mackie for Season 11, “I’ve been asked to stay on [for Season 11]. I haven’t made my mind up about that yet, mainly because I don’t want to have to make that decision. I’m trying to avoid it!
He added, “It’s special. I’m lucky enough to be in touch with other Doctors, and we all agree how extraordinary it is to be in this position. To decide to leave is a tough decision for everybody. [It was] very tough for Steven [Moffat], so I’m just putting it off for as long as possible.”

THE WALKING DEAD---Robert Kirkman explained why the word "zombie" isn't used in the series, “Zombie lore is very popular and we wanted to avoid the notion of, hey, why isn’t that character just shooting that zombie in the head because of all those movies I saw? We wanted to give you a sense that the walking dead takes place in a universe where zombie fiction doesn’t exist. No one has seen a Romero movie so they can’t get the rules from that. We felt like having people not use that word would kind of separate and make it more clear.”
Also, SUPERNATURAL executive producer Andrew Dabb commented on if Jeffery Dean Morgan might return to the series, “I don’t really worry about [his role on THE WALKING DEAD] because by the time he comes back, I’m sure [SUPERNATURAL] will have been on for 20 seasons at that point, and THE WALKING DEAD will be long over…Jeffrey’s an amazing actor… He plays such a great bad guy. But at the same time… if you give him really good material, he can go back to being someone we know and love and someone we can empathize with…I have full faith in him as an actor, and I’m excited to see [him return as John] if it ever comes to pass.”

OCEAN'S EIGHT---Damien Lewis will co-star as the villain in the all-female spinoff movie which stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway. Lewis will play Bullock's ex-lover and the victim of the all-female heist job at the Met Gala.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY---director James Gunn commented on his movies and continuity with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, "I’m so out in space unconnected at this point, outside of Thanos in Vol 1, I’ve never had to deal with even a single moment of continuity."

THE GUERNSEY LITERARY AND POTATO PEEL PIE SOCIETY---Lily James (CINDERELLA, DOWNTON ABBEY) stars in this World War II movie set on the island of Guernsey where the residents cope with Nazi occupation by forming a literary society.

ADRIFT---Shailene Woodley (PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES) stars in this movie based on the true story of a woman and her fiance who sail from Tahiti and are caught in a massive hurricane. She is knocked out and awakens to find the boat is heavily damaged and her fiance is missing. She then survives a 41-day ordeal to reach Hawaii.

ADIDAS---movie underway set during the Nazi rise in Germany where the sibling rivalry of brothers Adolf and Rudolf Dasser led to the founding of sports brand rivals Adidas and Puma. Andrew Garfield is the producer.

.

Yes, yes yes! This guy is currently one of only a handful of directors that I will basically go see a film of theirs without question.

Two of the worst ideas ever for remakes, sequels are Blade Runner and Dune, and Denis Villeneuve is probably directing both of them.

Whether or not Deckard was a replicant (no he's not!) it's a fabricated controversy. Guess they needed a hook to build buzz for a sequel no one asked for.

The only good thing about the gratuitous Blade Runner sequel is that theaters might run the original and the new one back to back. I'll leave after the first one.

I was lucky to be able to see Bladerunner Final Cut in our classic Paramount theater here in Austin a few months ago with my kid. The room was surprisingly almost packed. And the audience was silent throughout. Still, after seeing it probably a couple dozen times, I am stunned, amazed, bewildered, frustrated and impressed with it. It is a luxuriantly cinematic achievement and there is nothing remotely like it. My kid did not really know what to say, other than 'that was a lot weirder than I thought it would be." So yeah, a sequel is a diminishing thing.

Shailene Woodley (PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES)

She wasn't in that movie. Fortunately.

Lucky, lucky, lucky! It was playing as part of the Cinemark Classics Series a few years back, but I missed my chance. Sadface.

My very favorite post of the week, and a rare example of a strong justification for "why don't you want a sequel?". Well said.

CINDYLOVER:

The original article said she was in it....sometimes I doublecheck the original articles for accuracy and I almost did with her, but this time I didn't.
