James Woods had the title role, and Fritz Weaver played Illinois Sen. Everett Dirksen, who had the support of Sen. McCarthy when Dirksen was first elected to the Senate in 1950. Frank Pierson directed the 1992 film. Thomas Newman provided the unreleased score.
