UPDATE: November 22, 2016

EP. 30 | 20th ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL PART II

http://www.cinematicsound.net/ep-30-20th-anniversary-special-part-ii/

On September 21, 2016, CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO officially turned twenty years old.

Welcome to part 2 of my two-part countdown of my ten favourite scores of all time. Back in September, I featured my first 5 favourite scores. If you haven’t listened to that program yet then I highly recommend check that program out first before diving into this one.

On the program today, you will hear selections 5 through to 1. Just like our last show, you will hear recorded messages from loyal listeners and I will also read emails from long time and new CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO listeners who wanted to offer their thoughts on the twentieth anniversary of the show.

You hear all of that as well as another honorable mention featuring a classic score from a long lost Hollywood legend.

Next week we return to our regular schedule but until then please enjoy this close to three-hour program featuring what I consider to be the greatest scores of all time!

The show is available via iTunes, Google Play & Stitcher

No place for "Under the Skin", then? smile

For a long time I thought that Empire Strikes Back was my favorite SW score, because of the Yoda's Theme, The Imperial March, Han and Leia, etc. But if we speak of a score instead of a collection of memorables themes, the one that I can listen from the beginning to the end having great fun is really Star Wars. That's where it all began!

Makes sense. I think the entire trilogy is brilliant!

So much greatness. Interesting Jerry didn't crack the list except for honorable. I look forward to hearing your case for Cutthroat Island, a much lauded score that I've tried to love without great success.

I agree with nerf - where's all the Jerry? So much to choose from: The Wild Bunch, The Gauntlet, Lawman, Outlaw Josey Wales...

In no order:

THE SEA HAWK (Korngold)
VERTIGO (Herrmann)
EL CID (Rozsa)
STAR WARS (Williams)
ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST (Morricone)

The five greatest scores of all time are not necessarily my personal favorites of all time, but would of course be high on my list.

'Medal Of Honour'? That's some sort of videogame, right? Can't say I'm familiar with that one.

What I like about Erik’s choices is that he has explained his personal connection to them. It makes them tangible, real, and elevates his choices above that of a list for the sake of a list. It’s this sort of real insight that I particularly enjoy.

Thanks, Chris. I couldn't have asked for a better compliment. I'm glad that my personal stories don't bore you. BTW, I'm honoured that you take the time to listen to the show! I really am.

And thank you one and all for being so supportive of the program over the past 20 years! There have been days where I just want to call it quits, but it's my fans, old and new, that keep me motivated and inspired!

Thank you, one and all for listening!
