We’re so excited about this major film score expansion! It was 18 years ago, in 1998, when we released an album with fifteen minutes each from Marco Beltrami’s Scream and Scream 2. Both are Beltrami classics. In 2011 we finally set things right with a Deluxe Edition for the original Scream and now, five years later and just in time for Halloween, it’s time for Scream 2. Not only have we included all of Marco’s score but Scream 2: The Deluxe Edition even includes Danny Elfman’s Cassandra Aria and Cassandra Reprise! If you only know the score from the previous album, this one will be a wonderful revelation.

Sydney (Neve Campbell) and tabloid reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) survived the events of the first "Scream," but their nightmare isn't over. When two college students are murdered at a sneak preview of "Stab," a movie based on the events from the first film, it's clear a copycat killer is on the loose. Sydney and Gail, as well as fellow survivors Deputy Dewey (David Arquette) and Randy (Jamie Kennedy) have to find out who is behind this new murder spree, before they all end up dead.

As someone who thought the original score was just okay (basically Christopher Young-lite), is this anything worth looking into?

IMO it is pretty in line with part 1 (and 3/4, TBH), but listen to samples.

I've always been happy with the OST (1/2, 3, 4) from this series and didn't pick up the first movie's expansion. I'll get this eventually, though, as I've been waiting a long time to hear The Cassandra Aria.

I don't like horror scores in general, but Beltrami's SCREAM scores are an exception -- filled with so much "delicious darkness" (i.e. a more romantic, lush variant), I'm quite the fan. That being said, I -- too -- am more than pleased with the ol' 1/2 combo CD from Varese.

So the draw for me here would be Elfman's "Cassandra's Aria", although I've had a good-sounding "boot" version for years. Wish there were some way to just dowload those two tracks, but I'm guessing it won't be out on iTunes and such. frown

I thought you liked even your "album arrangement" releases to be around a half hour to 45 minutes for each score. This was only a measly 15 minutes before -- just a suite, really -- was that really all you needed to be "more than pleased"?

Fantastic score and great to see an expansion of it finally!

BUT (and I hate to be THAT guy) some stuff has been left off, despite the text stating that all of Marco's score is included. Sorry but I really am not favoring to include source cues like the Cassandra Aria, if it means that original score has to be left out. Especially since they've included the Reprise of Aria cue near the showdown which is really nothing more than an exact repetition of it's former version.

What's missing:

"Phil Gets the Point" (0:42) Phil is killed in the bathroom - One of the most powerful musical moments in the whole movie IMO and it was even partially included on the original album so I really don't get why this is being omitted.

News Conference (0:36) - Arrival of the gang at the news conference and Gail questioning the chief of police - rather unimportant I admit but nevertheless a nicely done spooky/atmospheric cue.

Gale Runs Into Cotton (0:43) - Gale meets Cotten with his bloody hands and runs outside to the phone booth shortly before the finale. Another Beltrami classic IMO, with it's over the top "screaming" accentuation of Gale running down the stairs.

Yeah, I know "be happy with what you got you constant nagger, etc., etc." Still I have to make this point, as I really don't understand why things have to be omitted from these albums. Just as with Freud or Starship Troopers. It's not like there'll be another edition of those..ever. For Varese it's those and that's it. So that music is just lost forever, that's what bugs me about it.

Sorry for the rent people but I'd prefer to have someone rather do right than doing it at all.

I'll have to agree I can't believe this CUE that MINK pointed out is not included!

"Phil Gets the Point" (0:42) Phil is killed in the bathroom

Maybe Beltrami hates the cue or something but it is the type of cue a horror soundtrack should have. **** Unless it happens to be integrated into another cue?

Are you sure these tracks aren't incorparted in other cues? But I must admit that I always assumed Scream 2 would be a 2 disc release. Still very pleased to see this one finally released.

There are plenty of samples from the music of Scream 2 on the Internet, tied with the OST release. It would resolve the OP's question

someone knows the story behind why Dewey’s Theme is actually Zimmer's Broken Arrow?

That is what I am hoping. These titles seem to be different from the "promo" version so I have high hopes.

Doesn't seem very likely...

Unless that short cue was created editorially and cut from another longer piece - eg Dewey being stabbed during 'Dewey and Gail Attacked', which covers the similar territory...

I can't be bothered with the Scream expansion (or the Scream 4 album) but the presence of Elfman makes this a must! (There's too little new stuff for me to bother with The Omen.)
