Solium wrote: The problem with all these properties is the studio's see them as a cash grab based solely off of name recognition. There's no real passion behind the projects. Bullseye. The live action SPEED RACER was brilliantly done, and I believe the producers are serious fans. The movie had many allusions to the original manga and anime, the American cartoon, and even more recent comic books. Examples: Based on your recommendation, I checked this out from the library. I'm enjoying it, despite the fact that I rarely enjoy modern movies and am getting a little dizzy from the heavy editing. This is probably because the characters are very interesting and individual. Thank you, Metryq.

getting a little dizzy from the heavy editing. Glad to hear you're enjoying it. Yes, the editing often features a lot of multi-layer composites. The first fifteen minutes probably covers more character development and history than other movies in their entirety. I love some of the small allusions in the movie. For example, at the end of the Casa Cristo race, Speed fishtails to a stop and uses the remaining momentum to leap from the car. The camera move and Speed's pose are right out of the anime titles. Also, the anime never made anything out of Speed's red socks, but the movie turned it into a good luck charm. One scripted item that was not filmed had Speed in the locker room of the Grand Prix. Racer X, dressed in a tux with red trim, steps in to see what is keeping him. Speed explains that his brother told him the socks were good luck, but Speed forgot them in the rush to get to the track. Speed and Racer X both look at the red trim of the tux, including red socks... (Making Speed racer enough to fill his brother's shoes?)

Thanks. I can only BARELY remember Mammoth Car, so I guess that's why I missed it.
