I would love to see Mancina working with Michael Bay and/or Jerry Bruckheimer again, and coming out of this animation rut.

I still remember seeing the teaser and a credit came up in the middle of the trailer with Mark Mancina's name (along with the other two musicians) in big text. I think the music will play a big part in this movie and am very much looking forward to his score. He's had some really amazing and memorable scores (August Rush, Speed, Twister, Bad Boys, Planes, Haunted Mansion, Tarzan...) and I always look forward to new stuff from him.

CD coming next week. Anyone know what the story is with all the "score demo" cues on the second disc? Will they be synth mock-ups of score cues? Has anyone heard this early who can speak to their quality?

Did you also watch the movies? I think part of why I'm not enjoying those scores is I never watched the movies.

no one watches this garbage.you dont need to know a movie to enjoy its score. i even have music from unreleased films, tvshows and games.great music is great music though there are times when watching a movie makes the score better afterwards .Happened to me with Dr.Strange.

You don't need it, but sometimes I don't really connect with a score until I see the movie, which is why I asked. Some of my favorites i never get around to watching the movie but a few times I get into a score only after watching the movie.

BOTH Lin-Manuel (HAMILTON) Miranda's songs and Mark Mancina's score are superb! I have the feeling more than one song will be nominated with so many indistinguishable songs being written today. And, depending how those Academy rules swing this year, Mancina may pick one up for some extraordinary work in and around them (like Zimmer for LION KING). I also have not enjoyed an animated film as much since HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON. Some real originality goes a long way.

I haven't seen either film. I think the scores are awesome. Their thematic and layered. The quite music is lovely, and the action music is propulsive and very exciting. The only caveat, I merged a lot of tracks together because there were a lot of short cues.

Anyone seen the film yet who can give us the film order of the songs and orchestral cues?

Edit: The score is on Spotify. I like most of the ethnic sounding songs and the score though it didn't blow me away. Gotta give it a few more listens and see if it grows on me. I didn't realize it was a "musical".

The songs are kind of great. Most of the score is forgettable.

Have to agree. First go around I enjoyed the songs more than the score. Sadly it's not immediately memorable.

Agreed. I'm disappointed in the score. It never goes anywhere and the short cues don't help either.

The underscore is far less thematic than Christopher Lennertz and Alan Menken's recent score for SAUSAGE PARTY, for instance, which is a satire of Disney animated features. I will say that the song "How Far I'll Go," which thankfully is reprised twice and represented as a karaoke/instrumental track, is one of the best Disney ballads of its kind. There are a handful of score tracks that I do enjoy, including "Tala's Deathbed" and several cues from near the end of the album, but that's about it.

I just saw the film and loved it (including the score). But everywhere I turn, all I can see it the friggin' 2CD Deluxe Edition. I just want the regular edition. Any tips?

How come? Even the Amazon link on top of this page seem to point to the regular album. It is also on iTunes.

I forgot to say that I'm looking for the digital release, not the CD. It does not appear in my iTunes store (could be a regional thing). But I found the Amazon version. I somehow missed it among all the "related" albums at first. All's good.
