Looks like Gore Verbinski has finally parted ways with Hans Zimmer after more than a decade of collaboration on The Ring, The Weather Man, the Pirates trilogy, Rango and The Lone Ranger. This could finally be a big break for Wallfisch who has emerged from Marianelli's shadow but hasn't yet had a blockbuster of his own.
Anyway. Looks like the 2nd-trippiest movie of next year so far, after Get Out.
Saw the film a few weeks ago. The score is nice dark stuff w/lullaby theme but very predictable at the beginning but becomes more and more gothic, then fully explodes in the last reel. Should make a good album.
Are really some labels just trying to top each other with the most shittiest way how to pack CDS?! In that case new winner is Milan Records! Job well done!
If anyone got the EU version of the Cure OST can you confirm if it is packed in the same piece of paper bullshit as the US version?
First of all..I ordered this off Amazon UK and got a Euro pressing (Made In France) and it's a standard jewel case with booklet and note from director. So that answers your question Lok. I never got 'round to seeing the film (it looked and felt too much like Shutter Island from the trailer and clips), but as I'm on a Wallfisch kick at the mo', I took a punt on the score and it's a VERY good horror/thriller score. Starts out grand and classical, via a catchy lullaby, but descends towards Hell in the latter half with some seriously sinister and genuinely creepy music, complete with modern vibe and disconcerting synth effects. Nice cover of Ramones' I Wanna Be Sedated at the end too, which has Wallfisch fingerprints all over it. I think the score for IT is in very safe hands indeed.
I Will need to check this composer out soon, I know he's been around a-few different labels.. but never listened to any of his music.. I neglect newer composers.
