Beautiful! A little bit John Barry-esque!

This film was way more engaging and interesting than I anticipated. I loved the 'novel' storyline unfolding within the story, very gripping and intense. I expected the film to be cold and distant, but was pleased to find the characters involving and flawed. It felt like a 'high-brow' DePalma film at times, complete with the old-school Herrmann styled strings and throw-back scoring. If I have one complaint, it would be the annoying and underwhelming endings of both story threads within the film. After the build-up of the 'novel' storyline, the ending/outcome felt botched and contrived to me somehow and the ambiguous ending of the reality-based setting was...I dunno...maybe I need a few days to ponder it. The acting was across the board top-notch, with Adams, Gyllenhaal, Shannon and Taylor-Johnson ALL outstanding. Most certainly recommended (by me).

Yeah, it is quite minimal sounding, but VERY lush, strings-wise. I wouldn't really play it much on CD (I don't find this composer that interesting to my ear, from what I've heard), but it adds a real veneer of class to the proceedings onscreen. I liked the icy string sustains during the more suspenseful scenes. Btw Thor, while you're on, have you heard the theme and last track from Dr STRANGE? I know you're not a fan of Giacchino, but I'm sure the prog-rock/60's vibe of the End Credits, coupled with the insanely catchy theme, would certainly appeal to your sensibilities.

I have heard it, and I DID like that track. I haven't heard the rest yet. As for Korzeniowski, I'm a big fan of his, and I absolutely adore his scores for COPERNICUS STAR, ESCAPE FROM TOMORROW, ROMEO & JULIET, A SINGLE MAN and W.E., in particular (plus his unreleased METROPOLIS score). This one, however, was not in the same league.

Agreed... first few cues were fine... but then it got quickly rather boring (despite the short running time)... it's still an OK score but hardly anything as special as his others...
