Varese is doing two special Varese Club cds for Halloween!
"Halloween Is Coming. And so is the CD Club! Two new releases will be announced on October 24. You won't want to miss them. "- Robert Townson via Facebook.
I'm as excited as anybody about new club titles—especially horror titles—but the announcement doesn't necessarily imply that the titles will be Halloween- or horror-themed.
Was it ever confirmed whether Varese had rights to THE THING (Morricone's) in perpetuity? With the bells and whistles BD just released I would think that's a good candidate.
I'd love to see Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters 2 (longshot), Williams's Dracula, definitive Halloween (album+ film presentation). I'd also be intrigued by a Child's Play box with all 6 of the scores on CD, although my guess is that dream is a longshot
I've really come around to dialogue on score albums, especially if the composer designed the album this way (Williams' Angela's Ashes or Heidi, for example).
At the same time, I especially don't like when the dialogue has a bit of sound effects or hiss involved, which really distracts from the music. The Halloween 20th version has a little of that.
With Halloween in particular, I can take it or leave it. The 20th anniversary version of the main title with the kids doing a trick or treat chant at the end of it has become my go-to version, though.
Deluxe Editions of JG's THE HAUNTING and Elfman's DOLORES CLAIBORNE would be perfect!
Those were literally my first thoughts too! Other great titles that would fit Halloween (and I suspect these two titles will tie in or Varese wouldn't be promoting them in this way): Williams's DRACULA, Doyle's NEEDFUL THINGS, and maybe Goldenthal's SPHERE.
