I'm addicted to Blake Neely's score for the recent TV series Blindspot and I want to thank La-La Land, WB, and Watertower for making a release possible -- I'm loving the music!!! I think more people should be talking about it, and I suspect more people should be listening to it.

I've only very recently discovered Blake Neely and have quickly devoured his music for recent TV offerings. Some I've enjoyed more than others. They've all been quite good, but some don't jump out at me as much as -- Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash are extremely high-quality, have plenty of terrific moments and are clearly works of great skill and artistry, but they're not my favorite. Arrow is arguably Neely's greatest achievement in the current wave of superhero TV -- a perfect balance of pathos, thrills, darkness, edge and warmth with deft weaving of themes and impressive sound design. Over the four seasons his work gets better and better.

Something about Blindspot though! It's quite apart from the others, can't really compare to them, tonally and stylistically polar opposite but still retains Arrow's drive and edge pumped up the the infinite degree. Neely's music for Blindspot isn't for everyone, but for people that enjoy this kind of badass, synth-beats-'n-rhythms (or synths-can-be-gorgeous) flavor will be endlessly entertained. It's wonderfully inventive in the programming department with seemingly endless electronic colors and textures and yet plenty of heartfelt moments evoked most often by ethereal synth pads, piano and my favorite, a fluttering and echoing female vocal. Thor, isn't this the kind of thing you like? Trying to remember who else on this site...

Blindspot came out of nowhere -- and I love it when this happens -- to be one of the best, coolest, most surprisingly addictive score of the year and I hope very much that La-La, WB, and/or Watertower will assemble a release for Season 2 please!

Yeah, it sounds like you prefer Arrow's score for the reasons it's one of my least favorites of his, the increased use of electronics and contemporary elements. Of all of Neely's current projects, I prefer his The Flash scores. Supergirl is also pretty solid. Shame he doesn't get an orchestra, which the music often cries out for.

Yes, a live orchestra would totally complete the puzzle. The one area that's lacking in his music is the sampled orchestra which at times can be distractingly synthesized and can take me out of the moment, which happens in scores like this unfortunately and can lessen the quality of an otherwise stellar track.

It's more distracting to me because most of the pilots got an orchestra and the difference is night and day. I remember being deeply impressed by the plane rescue sequence in the Supergirl pilot, mostly thanks to the score but all of the action sequences since have sounded distressingly fake.

I'm still surprised this even got a release. At least from what I heard in the series so far, nothing has stood out to me in the slightest. And this is one of my favorite TV shows right now. The large amount of synths has always sounded to me like typical modern scoring.
