I tried to search for this but found no information on the board. For those of you who are not aware, "Pray to the Lord" is a short piece John Barry wrote for church organ to commemorate the 90th birthday of Dr. Francis Jackson (perhaps Barry's most influential music teacher, along with Bill Russo). Has anyone heard this piece? It was recorded and released (along with its score) with the following book: http://www.banksmusicpublications.co.uk/product/fanfare-for-francis/44247/336/
I haven't been able to purchase this set, but I would appreciate it if any kind souls out there could shed some light as to what Barry's piece actually sounds like. It is not only his first and only piece for church organ (no, the few seconds in cues on scores like King Kong don't really count) but possibly the last piece of music he completed before his death.
Anyone?

Alex

Yes, I have it. It's a very simple tune—by far the shortest and least busy of all the compositions on the set. It would probably sound quite nice arranged for orchestra but the organ rendition on the CD is not that thrilling to be honest. Frankly, I never play it.

The book comes with the sheet music so someone of your talents could play it or arrange it for orchestra.

Cheers

It's not a great recording, sounds as though the mic was some way from the organ.

The title made me think it was on which Barry-scores you pray to the lord for to be released.
Mine would be: "They might be giants".

Yes, a much better recording might have felt more dynamic. As I look at the written score, it's not doing anything remarkably different to many other tunes we love, it just seems flat on the recorded disc.

I have often fantasised that if I was funding an album of newly recorded John Barry tracks, as well as recreating the film version of the Deadfall love theme, I'd have commissioned instrumental, orchestral treatments of Pray To The Lord and also Our Time Is Now.

Cheers

Thanks for your feedback guys. If any of you could please send me the mp3 recording and/or the written score (without getting into trouble with the english law, mind you) I would be very much obliged. My e-mail is in my profile. By what you are all saying about the piece, I can most probably sketch out an arrangement for chamber or string orchestra in a couple of hours. Heck, I might even find performers to do a nice recording!

Barry might turn over in his grave, but my first choice is "Howard the Duck". Then, perhaps some of his unreleased rejected scores and demos. I adore "They Might be Giants" but the Silva re-recording of the main themes is satisfying for now. If the tapes don't exist, I believe Ken Thorne's original orchestrations definitely exist somewhere because Raine used them. Thus, a proper, complete re-recording would be terrific and quite possible without the need of reconstructing any of the score (am I dreaming, or what?).

'Howard The Duck' is a fine score, I'd like a release as well. In fact, I was listening to the LP quite recently. I like the Thomas Dolby songs too.

Must say I wasn't aware of this Barry piece prior to the thread.

As much as I am a fan of Mr. Barry's work ... I admit this piece is a new one to me. I know I do not have everything of his output but to find there is a work I've never heard of is most interesting.

I congratulate those other members who both know of and have the work in question.
