Do they expect the man (or his persona the prophet) who called churches and political parties 'social clubs in drag disguise' to happily conform to their imposed (no matter how well intentioned) ritual?
Different league.
I despise most people's knee-jerk conformity, but unfortunately that's the social animal we are. I'm anti-social and recognize how extreme the condition is that even in non-conformity there's a conformity.
If you're a member of the human race, there is no escape from the human race. Dylan will bend eventually.
I'll bet a hundred bucks that Dylan won't come to Stockholm in December to collect the award.
Speaking of which, has he given any interviews at all in the last 20 years? I've looked on Youtube, but found nothing recent. Only the David Letterman performance from a couple of years back, but he just sang, he didn't say anything -- and seemed rather confused and 'aloof' when Letterman came on stage to thank him afterwards.
Dylan is a strange guy. The artists that played before him when he visited my hometown a couple of years ago were asked to LOOK DOWN if they came across him backstage.

Check out the 1999 and Rome 2001 interviews which I think are on YouTube.
Thanks! The Rome press conference in 2001 is indeed on YT in multiple parts, but it's only audio. Couldn't find the 1999 one. I DID find this after some searching, a 60 Minutes interview from 2004. I think that's the last one -- that's 12 years ago:
There's a good chance Bob will attend I was listening to Radio 5 Live this morning & one of his advisers said he is thinking of attending at least he's talking 60/40 chance
