Ray, you mentioned Steiner revives his famous march from DIVE BOMBER (1941) but didn't Max first write this for SUBMARINE D-1 (1937) ? (It was used in a few other WB films as well.)
Thanks for continuing the BYU Max Steiner series!
Yes, and I discuss that in the notes. But for the blurb I just mentioned the "Big" picture!
Thanks BYU and Ray for this long awaited release. I hope this will be a good seller. I would love to see more BYU releases in the years to come. Not only Max Steiner, but more Dimitri Tiomkin if possible. Any chance of Dimitri Tiomkin's score to THE WELL , Ray ?
I received FIGHTER SQUADRON 2 days ago, just finished playing it.
It's a very colorful and exciting score by Max Steiner and I highly recommend it to all Golden Age fans and others too. The sound quality is excellent and a very interesting 28 page booklet that's great reading. It's wonderful to have a CD like this that's such a class act. Many thanks to Ray, Craig, James and everyone else. Please try to issue a few more CDs with music by Max Steiner!
I was happy to see this CD is dedicated to the late Albert K. Bender. He recently passed away at nearly 95 years of age! I started corresponding with Al in 1970 and kept in touch with him for over 35 years. In the 1970s Al with his Max Steiner Music Society newsletter and annual was one of the few voices to we had promoting great film music. I was lucky enough to meet with Al in June 1973 for a 4 hour visit at his house in Los Angeles. Al had many of the Steiner discs he was transferring to tape. He played for me the main title to DIVE BOMBER (3 takes), and ironically FIGHTER SQUADRON contains this march! Here's to you Al.
