Silver age composers were modern composers. Contemporary composers are not necessarily modern composers. Shana Tova! I CHANGED IT TO "modern age"does that satisfy you Mr. Maven?

I CHANGED IT TO "modern age"does that satisfy you Mr. Maven? If those composers were working during the "modern age," then sure. But if they are contemporary composers, then now. Shana Tova! Natalie Portman!

Your GOLDEN AGE list might throw up a problem. Are you defining Jewishness as religious affiliation or genetics? Genetically, that list is entirely Jewish.

Guys, we got a complaint about this thread and its potential for causing arguments and anti-Semitism. (We do have a policy of no politics and no religion on the board.) Bruce, please just post the answers and then let's be done with it. Thanks, Lukas

I don't intend to post further on this thread, but I feel I should make ONE observation. Although there are many and diverse people represented on the FSM board, with diverse opinions, I'd be extremely surprised if there should be even ONE anti-semitic person amongst the lot of them. So God knows how the complainant thinks such a storm might brew up! It must be from someone who doesn't know this community. Or does ... Here endeth the point.

Bruce In deference to Lukas I am closing the thread by providing the answers. As a person of Jewish descent who grew up in a family of musicians (and actors, and movie producers etc), I have always been fascinated by the fact that so many Hollywood (and Broadway) composers are Jewish! It is a strange historical occurrence that is not easy to fully understand (I remember in Lukas' newsletter days, a writer asked about this very phenomenom)! Anyway, I think it is fantastic that the current scene is so much more diverse now with composers from Asia, Central and South America, and many women making inroads. Sincerely, Bruce ps I was prescient in predicting this would be "the last annual contest"

I believe Rozsa was born to Jewish parents but his family converted/was assimilated and he only found out late in life that he was Jewish by birth. Anyway, enough of this. Thanks, Lukas
