I read that as " DOCTOR WHO spinning class" at first. But seems like a decent show -- I'm not in the target audience, obviously, but I think I could get some pleasure out of it.

Of all the things I thought Doctor Who needed, a layer of teenage angst wasn't one of them.

Lots of nice new shiny pictures from the new series. Looks pretty good. Nice monster. I wonder how much of a spin-off it really is. Could it be Patrick Ness came up with an idea and the BBC thought the best way to promote it would be to link it with one of their top series?

Either way it's looking better than either of the two previous spin-offs. Hope I don't end up eating my words..

Wonder whether this will have the same level of homosexuality in it that ruined Torchwood?

I'm sure one of the trailers I've seen put an emphasis on snogging, including two males. Whether or not it's overdone remains to be seen. I did think that the previous spin-offs suffered from poor balancing of adventure and everything else. Torchwood had a ham-fisted approach to 'adult' I thought, whilst Sarah Jane Adventures was too twee and sugary even for a show aimed a the kid's hour. I hope the new one gets the balance right. I read elsewhere that the tone may be a bit Scoob Doo with teen angst thrown in!

Paul, excellent sum-up of the last two spinoffs. I watched the first season of each and stopped for exactly the reasons you state.

You know what Sean? There was plenty to enjoy in both cases. Trouble is once you've been put off... And believe me, I don't blame you.

I loved both stories of the Doctor guest episodes of SJA. For a start I'm a Pertwee fan, and there was no way I could miss Katy Manning as Jo Grant coming back! Of course I balked at the man-sized vultures, even though I appreciated the joke of vultures being funeral organisers..

And again (third series) Torchwood: Children of Earth was excellent. Apart from the odd gaf, it was vastly superior to either what went before and what came after (not to mention a brilliant performance by future Doctor Capaldi). Guess you have to be a fan to trawl through the deadwood..

I've thought about watching Children of Earth, esp. because of Capaldi, but I read the synopsis online (no worries, I do that all the time, surprise is not a high value for me in storytelling) and that sort of dramatically-efficacious nihilism isn't for me. I prefer to keep to Captain Jack DW 1-3.

But I will probably give SJS another go. Twee is far less of a problem for me, and I had missed that Katy Manning guested. Gives me a reason right there.

The BBC has confirmed thet the Doctor Who spin-off series will be shown on BBC One this January

The first episode can be seen on Monday 9th January at 10.45pm

Class has previously only been available in the UK via the BBC Three channel, which, since the 16th February this year, has only been available online.

No firm details are available for the number of viewers who have watched the series on BBC Three, but no episode has managed to make the Weekly BARB Top 50 list of downloaded programs, meaning less than around 60,000 watched the episode in the two days after release. It is believed the audience for each episode was between 20,000 and 60,000 viewers.

The BBC will be hoping for a much bigger audience for the BBC One showing, where the late night timeslot has an average of just over 2 million viewers.

The series is due to be shown on BBC America this spring

Children of Earth is beautifully gut wrenching. I also think it's the most realistic aliens invade Earth story ever filmed. This coming from someone who usually hates this kinda stuff. But it's so well made.

I stopped watching “Dr. Who” during Matt Smith’s tenure because it was giving me headaches.

It had turned into one of those tiresome “Everyone knows exactly what’s going on..... except the audience!” pieces.

I quite enjoyed “Class”. The youngsters are good, there are some great “monsters”, and, best of all, it has the fabulous Katherine Kelly stealing every scene. She’s just wonderful. big grin
