British distributors Network Releasing will release on Blu-ray UFO: The Complete Series. The seven-disc box set will be available for purchase on November 14.

Official synopsis: The year is 1980. After ten years development in top secrecy, SHADO Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation goes live. Its aim: to combat the threat of an alien invasion from a dying race who abduct humans to repair their own decaying bodies. SHADO's dedicated operatives fight a secret war against Earth's terrifying new menace: on land, sea, air and in space!

Long-awaited on Blu-ray, it is presented here in a stunning new High-Definition restoration, with all 26 episodes offering original mono or 5.1 soundtracks, alongside a wealth of special features.

Special Features:

The Women of UFO: new documentary discussing the improving sexual equality depicted in the series and the role of science fiction in striving for that change
Identified: SHADO New Recruits Briefing: a newly created SHADO briefing film narrated by Matt Zimmerman
Exclusive 600 page book on the making of the series by archive television historian Andrew Pixley

More importantly, will the equivalent region1 version be released by whomever has the USA rights (A&E?)?

They haven't stocked any other Network products. So I think the answer is 'no'.

Fanderson only sells their own home grown products. Network is nice and fast. I get their stuff delivered to the US within a week of ordering. Love them. I got the 1999 Year 2 set recently. Beautiful restoration work.

After A&E lost the distribution rights to Space:1999, I wouldn't hold my breath for UFO. Perhaps Shout! Factory? They have released other Anderson titles.

Any idea who has the R1 distribution rights for The Prisoner now?

The US release goes for mega bucks and is now OOP. However, the Network release is still available.

I wouldn't know. Perhaps A&E don't have US distribution rights to any of the ITC shows.

I know this is a tad nerdy, but I'm hoping the box is not as huge as it looks at Network or Amazon. The Space 1999 Season 1 I have is not half as fat as this one looks, and that's a normal size package, and that's seven discs so fingers crossed..

And with that hefty price tag, I'm afraid I'll be waiting for a sale (as I also did with Space) before I can afford it I think.

Paul,
Yeah, I saw that picture. It'a a bit on the bulky side. I'll probably wait for the price to come down also. I have yet to get Space;1999 Year Two and The Avengers, which I see are now priced around the £35 mark, so now might be a good time to get them.

On the subject of UFO, I see Chris Bentley's book, The Complete Book of Gerry Anderson's UFO has been updated and revised, just in time for the Network release.

You know what John?

I think it's almost a given that a) it's cheaper to buy now while it's 'pre-order' price, b) it hopefully will be a somewhat slimmer case as Space 1999 is, and c) there will be a Network sale sometime in the future where it will be much cheaper. It's not like it's labelled 'limited edition' or anything.

So I'm going to leave it a while. I do have Vol 1 of the Carlton release. And even that is a pretty decent copy. God bless ITC and their wonderful good quality film stock..

Yeah, I'll wait myself. They'll come down in price in due time. I'm in no great rush to get the set, but I will eventually.
When it comes to releases, Network certainly set the bar high.

Looking at the box set BD there's a 600 page book with it. I wouldn't mind betting that's what's taking up the extra room in that box! Gotta love Andrew Pixley though. He's one of my oldest friends. What he doesn't about the facts really is just...

I was hoping this was bumped up to announce a region 1 release. frown
