Not many composers have had anything like this. With so much attention going toward the incredible composer Elmer Bernstein due to THE TEN COMMANDMENTS finally getting released I thought I would bring up this annual set of screenings at the lovely Granada picture palace. It is in Santa Barbara, a couple hours from LA on Metrolink. Last year this was hosted by Paul Williams with guests like Bruce Broughton doing discussions. This year Jon Burlingame is host with guests to be announced. Usually the family is in attendance including composer Peter Bernstein. And the number of screenings have expanded to eight and I plan to attend most. Since they are on Mondays I should mention this a beautiful place for an extended weekend. Tomorrow's screening is the film that started it all THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM.
Good and enthralling viewing to you, Henry! Once again, I'd join you if only I didn't happen to be half a world away! Seeing these cinematic creations on a big screen takes the whole experience to a different level. A magical one...
Morricone, how did the screening of "The Man With the Golden Arm" go? Was any of the Bernstein family there? I know Peter Bernstein was working with the NY Philharmonic lately, arranging their live score to picture performance of Woody Allen's "Manhattan," which played last week to a sold out crowd.
I live in CA but Santa Barbara is rather too out of the way for me for now, though perhaps I'll make an effort to do the "Far From Heaven" screening next year.
