Lately, Amazon has been supplying CD-r's instead of legit CD's. I got the recent cast album of the new Broadway musical GROUNDHOG DAY, only to find it was a packaged CD-r. Apparently, Amazon has been doing that with many new releases. Usually it's mentioned in the description of the item, which I hadn't caught, since I never expected something like that to happen. But, for me at least, I'd prefer not to pay regular CD prices for what turns out to be a CD-r.

what are the problems with CD-r's. And why are they being used. Sorry I am a little dumb on some of this stuff. All I want is to buy the music (two JW scores coming up) and just "plug and play". Forgive me of my denseness but sometimes the upgrade in technology is a pain in the butt.

CDR'S are not like legit club cd's they have a short life, loss of sound, they also have nasty artwork that's not fit to wipe your ass with. Well no, there's no inherent reason that CDRs need to have any worse artwork than a pressed CD -- in fact I have a number of classical releases that one might even call deceptive given they actually look exactly like a 'normal' CD release until you actually look at the CD itself and find they are CDRs In fact, some of you may even own one without knowing it -- if you have the Nimbus release of Ivan the Terrible it could be a CDR....or anything by Numbus, Lyrita or Meridian from the last 10 years (and more recently Sterling). As for the shorter life....a good quality one should, theoretically, last long enough for you to enjoy it in your life. A classical cd is a different area to a club film score, composer promo scores is where the lines at for me, practically all of them have detailed booklets + the discs have a proper polycarbonate. No. I don't have the 3 stated above, but I do have Ivan the Terrible on RCA red seal a pucker recording. http://osta.org/technology/cdqa13
