Shown last night on the Sky Arts channel, and repeated today - a concert of italian film music, introduced by alec baldwin and martin scorsese, played by N.Y philharmonic.
Featuring themes from amarcord (rota), la doce vita (rota), Anonymous venetian (cipriani), the leppard (rota), Scent of a woman (trovaioli), City of women (bacalov), mondo cane (ortolani/oliviero), Juliet of the spirits (rota), 8 1/2 (rota), il postino. (Bacalov).

They also did themes from OuatitW and incontro and Cinema paradiso - but were the rather disappointing song versions.
Ennio under represented - or at least had his talent muted by the song versions - and a little too many Rota themes. But good nonetheless.

I seen that listed and recorded it this morning, so hopefully get to view it over the next day or two. Josh Groban makes an appearance as well, yes? I like himsmile

Yes. He sang Incontro. And sang duet with soprano Renee Fleming for Cinema paradiso. And il postino. I have to say it was a bit of a competing racket and after a while i wanted them to shut up so i could hear the theme!!

I was a bit underwhelmed by the programme (as you know, Bill, and thanks for the heads up over the weekend). Morricone's music lends itself so perfectly to songs that the music may be in danger of being forced into the back seat. "Nella Fantasie" for instance must be one of the most covered songs in recent history, and it is a beautiful song, but it's still just secondary in my opinion to the score of The Mission.

But I suppose that the more people who experience Morricone in any form, the better the world will become!
