I've been wanting this score since I saw the film in 1981 but I fired up the recently released bluray and man, I REALLY want to get this baby into my ears. What a beautiful, underrated score. Just wondering, what's the hold up on this gem?
I remember really liking this score back when I had no idea who Dave Grusin was. Shame the tapes are lost. It would not make any economic sense whatsoever, but wouldn't it be great if somebody did a new recording of this and his mostly lost "Murder by Death"?
Yup, as Maleficio says. Roger Feigelson's own words in 2007:
"It's lost. Neither Grusin or the studio has anything. LOST. For now anyway."
Isn't it incredible that this careless lack of foresight happens? It's like a doofus who writes an entire novel on a computer and doesn't back it up once. You spend all that time and effort, composers especially, and you don't take a copy home to keep? You don't share copies of your work? No backups? I'm sure the tapes are in some box somewhere, buried under a ton of crap...right next to the TIME BANDITS sessions.
