The Monty Norman version of the Bond theme sounds pretty rough on here. Maybe it's just my old ears, but does anyone else think that the mastering on this set sounds pretty poor all round compared to both earlier and later versions of the title songs in particular? Unfortunately, the life seems to have been sucked out of many of them... No, it's not just you - and this comes as no surprise: the disks have been mastered by Bob Norberg who is/was notorious for disastrous masterings. If you don't like the Bond set, you should listen to the butchering he has done to the likes of Sinatra, Peggy Lee or Nat Cole - and you'll think the Bond disk is audiophile. Unfortunately, the sound quality of the Bond compilation has been getting worse from edition to edition. The best one is "13 Original Themes" mastered by Ron McMaster... https://www.discogs.com/de/Various-James-Bond-13-Original-Themes/release/3452733

His work tends to be very good, while Norberg's is nearly always awful. IIRC, Norberg and Furmanek worked together on the Liberty twofer of "Julie Is Her Name" Vol. 1 and 2, and that is one of the better sounding CDs of her work.

That's true - most of the titles I've heard with Ron Furmanek's involvement have decent to good sound. I think that's why the Bond compilation does not sound as bad as Norberg's treatment of the Sinatra catalog (which is awful by all means)...
