Finally saw the fight last night on HBO. It seemed to me a closer fight than leagolfer saw it, but I have to agree with him (and all 3 of the HBO commentators) that Kovalev was robbed on the decision. One fact that brings me to this conclusion is that in the 10th round, Kovalev clearly dominated in power punches and every statistic, and yet Ward was awarded the round by all 3 of the (American) judges. Definitely had the odor of "home cooking." It's hard to believe that Ward could actually think he had won the fight, though of course the bad decision was not his fault. Kovalev would be smart to demand that the rematch be held in a neutral country with a panel of experienced judges from a variety of countries. It was not quite the one-sided poundfest leagolfer claims: Kovalev was very dominant in the early rounds, but due in part to a heavy and effective body attack, Ward gained traction from the 5th or 6th round on, with many rounds in the latter part of the fight susceptible to interpretation. Because of the early dominance and knockdown by Kovalev, and his clearly taking round 10 (at least) among the latter rounds, the math just doesn't work for Ward to have won the fight fair and square.
