Yeah, if you bother reading the details of this planet they've discovered very little is known -- such as if it has an atmosphere! It revolves around its dwarf star in only 11.5 days! I wonder at what speed it revolves? I can imagine living on it would be like living under a strobe light.
An interesting discovery, but not much to get excited about, and any robotic probe we could send to it to then radio back informetion on, would not return that information until long after we are all dead.
The article makes no promises and neither did Onya.
"Earth-like" news = false advertizing, like a real estate listing. Likewise the thread title.....the Robinsons wouldn't attempt to colonize a planet full of space hippies, let alone a radioactive one.
"Earth-like" news = false advertizing. And as far as the accuracy of the thread title.....the Robinsons wouldn't attempt to colonize a planet full of space hippies, let alone a radioactive one.
Oi, my comment wasn't directed at you, LC. But at the same time no one should be expecting scientific accuracy from an online article. Especially CNN.
I'd already seen this planet news a few days ago on the BBC news link, and it ticked me off then. I had my bags packed for the trip until I got to the end of the article. http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-37167390 I dont expect the BBC to sensationalize like crappier news sources, but even they will post something like "Cancer cure in sight!" while the article essentially says"...in a few decades."
