It appears we are finally getting The Ten Commandments. Can we get this great Mancini score?

I'd love it too (as I've posted many times), but...it's been 51 years, do the music tapes still exist? Are there problems with RCA who released the rerecorded album? Are Warner uninterested in licensing it out? Is it too much work & too expensive to tackle it, baring in mind that it's probably only going to be 1200 copies. I'll stay optimistic & enjoy the great looking Warner Blu-ray.

....and the original music as performed in the movie is much better as the RCA re-recorded album. I also hope the original music comes out one day.

A holy grail for me. One of Mancini's most beautiful melodies in "The Sweetheart Tree" and an overall fun score. Love that Professor Fate theme!

Not the kind of Mancini score (or film) that interests me. I paid a dollar for this album - and dragged it right back to the thrift store.

As I have posted many times in the past, I would buy it for the "swordfight" cue alone (which, of course, would never have been included on the commercial RCA release.)

There's also another release from 2001 bundled with the party called the Mancini Soundtrack Collection. Anyone own this?

That's the sixties album, some years back RCA re-released a lot of their Mancini soundtrack albums as two-fers. I think they're all deleted now.

Recently re-issued in a box set. These are mostly all re-records:

And where is A SHOT IN THE DARK???

Quartet posted in December of 2014:

Mono tapes with the original recordings of A Shot in the Dark are vaulted at the Mancini Estate, but the rights are holder[held] by Sony Music on[in] perpetuity. Maybe La-La Land or Intrada can do something with this. I hope so!

Maybe coming for its 52nd anniversary (as opposed to its originally planned 50th anniversary release in 2015)

Not that you necessarily know or can say right now, but did Natalie record Sweetheart Tree at all, or was it always planned to be dubbed?

(Also, Hooray!)

You shouldn't dismiss The Great Race based on its album (which like virtually all original Mancini efforts, was a rerecording). There's a ton of great music in the actual score, including a lot of wonderful suspense and chase music not included on the record.

Amazing variety on that score - a blueprint for comedy scoring!
Arguably one of the best ever, purely on the quality and quantity of its different themes, from the pie in face polka and good night sweet prince and the shouldna oughtna etc, sweetheart tree, push the button max etc etc.

Yeah, great post from LLL. Could we really be getting both The Towering Inferno & The Great Race in 2017? If so...very good big grin

All these original scores have shown an enormous amount of wonderful rewards as opposed to the original RCA rerecordings! HUZZAH

Maybe the estate has "The Great Race" tapes also.
"A Shot In The Dark" music was published by Mancini's company "Twin-Chris Music Corporation".
The estate probably still owns the copyright but not the recordings. Too bad something hasn't been
worked out on this title.
