This Dior ad with Natalie Portman is just one iteration of the Runaway Bride bit, which women seem to love:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0J9zl8_4qM

She said yes to a marriage proposal, signed off on all the wedding arrangements, allowed her father to spend his life savings on a one-day event, and then she runs away at the altar?

How is that not childish and selfish to the point of being despicable?

Why do women like this fantasy? Nevermind the poor groom; what she does to her father alone makes my blood boil.

Zap, as a woman I totally agree with you that this is terrible. However, I don't think this is a fantasy common to most women. The exception might be women who are forced into marriages, and we know there are countries that still force women (and men) into arranged marriages.

My daughters have both been married in the last decade, and to say neither wedding was cheap is an understatement. My husband and I would have billed them big time had this occurred. The reality is they were both thrilled on their wedding days to be married to two great guys.

I don't know why this advertiser would think this is some kind fantasy for women. I don't think it is, and I don't know any women friends who think this is what women want. I find it a selfish, thoughtless advertisement.

Thanks, Joan. It does seem like an insult to women. But it must sell or they wouldn't do it.
