This version on us itunes The Great Wall (Original Soundtrack Album) by Ramin Djawadi https://itun.es/us/Q0B5gb
I saw THE GREAT WALL today. The film doesn't offer up anything original by way of a story, but it looks and sounds great, and at under two hours, it doesn't try to stretch its limited story too far. Despite all the negative reviews, it's a decent popcorn flick. I liked the few musical themes on which Djawadi spins his variations, and on that basis alone, I plan on getting the CD.
Very catchy theme and some interesting thematic work. But the score is hindered by substandard action music that uses the same dry, repetitive legato string beat that every score since HGW's Kingdom of Heaven popularised that. Zimmer's ostinato for Batman is a breath of compositional genious compared to this nightmare.
It is very interesting that the Zimmer school started by innovating in action and epic scoring and now they are the most obvious and banal work that gets out there.
Yeah, the movie was surprisingly a blast. Weirdly, Matt Damon seemed to be playing Vincent D'Onofrio, which took some getting used to, but other than that: it was a handsome and fun popcorn flick, the best time I've had at the movies since. . . well, since I saw Get Out yesterday, but that was a whole different beast. Certainly far more enjoyable than most of the action movies I've seen in recent years. Not a smart flick but a fun one.
I'm coming into this score pretty late, but I have to say that I absolutely *adore* it! This score fits right into Djawadi's other big scores like Clash of the Titans and Warcraft, but has it's own unique sound. "Nameless Order" and "The Great Wall" are getting regular listens! I highly encourage everyone to check this one out (or give it a second chance).
