Check out my new interview with composer JAY WADLEY, who makes a beautifully impressive Indie scoring debut with acclaimed producer James Schamus' first directing feature INDIGNATION, as a young, hyper-intellectual man charts repressive academia and sexuality in the 1950's - an emotional journey marked by the kind of haunting melody that marks an impressive new scoring voice. Read Wadley's extensive evocation on creating a literate, delicately feeling score at:
The "Indignation" score takes a rather understated modern approach, but the original song - "Is it Love" - is an homage to big and lushly-orchestrated 1950s love songs (the arrangement strongly evokes Nelson Riddle, Gordon Jenkens, Billy May, etc.). The composer of the score, Jay Wadley, also did the arrangement for the song, and it's a rare opportunity to hear a modern composer conjure a 1950s orchestral sound. It's beautiful!
