Just saw this morning, that voice dubber, Marni Nixon, has passed away. For those who do not know, she sang for Deborah Kerr in King and I, for Natalie Wood in West Side story, and for Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady. She also sang one line only for Shirley Jones in the If I loved You number in Carousel.
Marni was a legend and it's sad news. That said, my heart actually sank because I first read the thread as Marti Noxon, one of the showrunners for BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. Her DVD commentaries are among my faves, as is her fun musical performance in the BTVS musical episode, "Once More With Feeling."
In any case, RIP Marni Nixon and thank the Lord that Marti Noxon is still with us.
She was a great foil when Victor Borge did his shtick. LOL thinking about him swatting her hand off the piano.
The Times obit talked about the many times she sang a line here or there a la the Shirley Jones example cited by OP. Would love to see a full list, sure there must be one out there. As for the famous full dubs, I think the Natalie job was the best. Not bad for Miss Kerr. Just placed for Audrey.
She went to Dorsey High School, and was a classmate of Jerry Goldsmith (she even had a crush on him, and mentions this in her autobiography "I Could Have Sung All Night"). She was in the Roger Wagner Chorale, who sang the choral passages for Hugo Friedhofer's score "Joan Of Arc" and sang the wordless voice for the underwater scenes for Friedhofer's score for "Boy On A Dolphin". R.I.P. Marni Nixon.
