Either I never saw that poll, or I did and I'm having a senior moment. If I had voted/did vote, my vote would have gone to THRILLER. On the whole, given a choice between a work that at least has been released vs. one that has never been released, I usually prefer the latter. In this case, I also have a strong personal affection for JG's THRILLER scores, because they were the first ones that I ever heard and the ones that led me to fall in love with his music. Of course, if James ever does do THRILLER, I certainly hope he'll record not only Jerry's scores but also the equally wonderful scores by his friend and sometime collaborator, Morton Stevens.

If they ever include any scores by Goldsmith's pupil (Goldsmith taught Stevens the mechanics of scoring for film), pupil, occasional collaborator and friend Stevens, I hope they include Stevens' very first score for the series "Waxworks" and "Pigeons From Hell" both of which unfortunately, are not available as isolated scores on Image Entertainment's D.V.D. set of the series.

Dear Filmmusicnow, You're a man after my own axe-stabbed heart. PIGEONS FROM HELL has been a holy grail for me ever since I was a kid when the show was first broadcast. I can't understand why they didn't isolate the m&e track on the recent DVD set: I've known someone who was able somehow to finagle that feat even before there was such a thing as DVDs. I share your disappointment in this mystifying omission. I'm not as familiar with WAXWORKS; unlike PIGEONS, I never recorded it on my reel-to-reel Wollensak. But I'm sure it's excellent. All the scores by the two main composers on that series were top of the line.

Netiehr. I prefer original recordings, especially ones that still exist.

So then vote for something where the original recordings don't exist any longer. Surely you didn't see their great new recording of The Salamander as a pointless venture? Yavar
