I had Dark City soundtrack in the car on my way to (and from) work today. When I came home and was going to put the CD back to it`s place in my collection I noticed something I had not seen before: Trevor Jones name was spelled wrong. It was spelled Trever Jones.

So that made me think. I do know that some soundtracks have had certain track titles spelled wrong (Silvestri`s Eraser has a perfect example of this). However besides this particular one I have never seen any examples when the composer`s name is spelled wrong. So is this a very rare occasion or does you know of other examples?

Well, there's "Rosza" and "Raskin" for a start...

And, of course, Elmer Bernstien on Cat Women of the Moon !

Ha! Yes, Elmer Bernstien is credited as such in the film CAT-WOMEN OF THE MOON. Rosza and Raskin are common misspellings, but have they ever been (mis)credited as such in film credits or on CD releases?

Tobias, do you just mean CD/LP releases? If that's the case, I have BIRDMAN OF ALCTRATRAZ (sic) by Elmar Bernstein (sic), but since it's a Tsunami release it probably doesn't count.

When I saw LEGEND OF THE 7 GOLDEN VAMPIRES on the big screen in 1974, I thought I was dreaming when I read that the music was by "James Benard". Recent YouTube viewings have proved me right (meaning I wasn't dreaming), but it depends on which version you watch.

Oh goody here I was holding back from playing Poindexter but somebody beat me to it. Thanks, Tobias! But while I'm here late me say I've been enjoying my newly-purchased Tadlow CD of Lawrence Of Arabia but oy, why spell it "Akaba" when everyone knows Aqaba has always been spelled Aqaba?!

How stupid of them to get Lex Barker's name wrong there. He was famous worldwide as Tarzan, so it was a logical step for him to put out those jungle noise albums.

The MCA Records album from the film 9/30/55 states "Roseman" instead of Rosenman.

Miklos Rozsa's name was misspelled as ROSZA on some release prints of DEAD MEN DON'T WEAR PLAID. I first saw it that way.

Eventually, however, someone must have got to Universal, because it was corrected on other release prints. I wonder how many of the incorrect prints got out, and if it still turns up incorrectly on other media for this film.

The recent Blu-ray on the VCI label of THE BRAVE ONE, the Academy Award Winning CinemaScope film of 1956 for Dalton Trumbo's script, is going out with "ACADAMY Award Winner" stamped on its cover (unless it's been changed since advertising photos were taken).

Years ago when I worked at Saul Bass, I was wandering through the art department and they were doing the final paste-ups for all the ads and posters for ADVISE AND CONSENT. I happened to look at the credits lines and saw that actor Burgess Meredith's name had been spelled in all the ads as "Meridith". I pointed this out, everybody looked at me with shock, and, since I was a fairly recent hire and an inexperienced youth at the time, they said, "ARE YOU SURE?" I bravely said, "Yes".....they looked it up elsewhere, and changed it to the correct spelling. (I got good points and more respect after that! smile ) Those kinds of errors cost a lot of money to repair after the work has gone out.

Intrada got Pino Donaggio's name wrong on HERCULES (I think it was the spine).

I'm not sure this counts, but on the "Round Up" C.D. from Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra on the Television Themes Western medly, as they mention the theme from "The Rifleman", Herschel Burke Gilbert was credited as "Herschel Burke-Gilbert" the mistaken notion that he was British! (he was actually born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin). Jeff Bond erred when he referred to him as "Herschel Gordon Lewis" in his F.S.M. review of "The Adventures Of Superman" television music C.D..And in the television film "A Woman Called Jackie", Lalo Schifrin's last name was erroneously listed in the opening credits as "Schiffrin"!

Initially I only meant CD/LP releases but reading about those occasions when the names are spelled wrong on the silver screen is indeed an interesting read. Speaking about names spelled wrong on the silver screen I do have one example of my own to share even if it is not the actual composer but in this case the name of the orchestrator. In the end credit sequence of the Gwyneth Paltrow movie Sylvia I noticed that orchestrator Nick Ingman`s name was spelled Nick Ingham. But since he is only the orchestrator and not the composer I did not mention this in my original post.

Besides this reply most other replies is about composers from back in the days. Even if those old ones are fun to read about I am actually more curious about more "modern"/current examples like the one above.
