I've read two types of reviews, those that are honest and say it's flat out cringe worthy and those that gave it luke warm approval because their afraid of being attacked as anti feminists. I don't think this film will get to far north of 100 mil. Maybe 125 mil domestically when all said and done. The merchandising is the key. Just having the franchise name out there keeps the fans interested in the toys, figures, what have you. What makes you think any non-negative review isn't honest? I'm sure the vast, overwhelming majority of reviews by real critics reflect their honest assessments. I've also seen plenty of genuinely positive ones, not merely lukewarm. My wife and have seen it twice now, and we both enjoy it a great deal. I don't think it can ever have anywhere near the same cultural impact of the 1984 original (how can it? This movie is part of the original's cultural impact), but it's a genuinely funny, entertaining movie - not for all viewers, perhaps, but for plenty, and even as someone who actually enjoys Ghostbusters 2, I have to say this reboot is quite a bit better than that sequel. None of this is to say anything about how well I think it'll do, but I can confidently say the positive reactions aren't merely from studio shills or spineless reviewers cowed by Big Feminism into giving it a pass for featuring wimmenz.
