I've seen much better pop art than this. And if they think this kinda gimmick is gonna get the under 35 buying these titles, their fooling themselves. Oh, and Apollo 13 is anything but an awful film.
I wish blu-ray labels and studios would just put the poster art on their releases. Especially with older titles. Not this crappy remix graphic design pop shit. Luckily some specialty labels will include a backside with the original art so you have the option to change.
But yeah, it never ceases to amaze me how much effort will be put into creating crappy packaging when what should really be the sales pitch should be the quality and remastering of the movie. Not a different looking cover.
Yes, I wish the studios would use the original poster art. I think the studios want you to think that an older film is more contemporary that it is, by using what they think is more up to date art (usually crap). But I have to say I'm not really that bothered, my cases are on a shelf in a cupboard.
I'm glad to know I'm not alone in my irritation regarding terrible art on movie re-releases. Gone are the days of VHS when the key art would go on the cover.

I suppose the difference between then & now is in those days we bought this stuff in shops, & no internet to tell us what was coming out, so a cover had to catch out eye, all change now with us knowing what's released & buying online. Very much the same with CD covers that have never been so bland.
In many cases I'm in agreement with most others here, but I have to say I'm not so sure that Sixteen Candles pop art isn't at least as good as the original photo-based key art, if not an outright improvement.
